April 1-4: Good Friday through Easter

April 1: Jesus Prays in Preparation
After Jesus had finished praying, His greatest moments of glory were set in motion. This is citywide call to prayer. Just before His arrest—and ultimately His death—Jesus spent time in prayer. Although the disciples did not know what was coming, Jesus did. He prayed for His friends—and He prayed for us. He prayed for protection from the evil one. He prayed that all followers of Christ would be known for their love and unity with each other. Jesus prayed that His heavenly Father would be glorified in all that was about to happen. And when He had finished praying, Jesus prepared Himself to be arrested. Jesus knew the time had come, and He ushered in that glorious moment with prayer. “Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for Your powerful example of prayer. Thank You that even now You are praying for us. We pray that in our greatest moments of need, we will look to You in prayer as our Redeemer and Deliverer. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 2: Jesus Embraces Destiny
After Jesus had finished praying, His greatest moments of glory were set in motion. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus prayed earnestly for His disciples—and He also prayed into the future for all believers. When He had finished praying, He went to the place where He knew He would be arrested. As hundreds of soldiers came with torches blazing in the night, Jesus did not run and hide. He stepped forward into His glorious destiny by initiating contact with the soldiers. He knew exactly what was coming, yet He identified Himself as the one they were looking for. Jesus prayed and then embraced the future without fear. “Dear Lord Jesus, we thank You for so willingly embracing death on our behalf. Thank You for Your amazing example walking into Your Kingdom destiny without fear. We pray that You will give us the courage and strength to step into Your Kingdom purposes, as well. May You be glorified through our obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 3: Jesus Resolutely Embraces Death
After Jesus had finished praying, His greatest moments of glory were set in motion. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus resolutely embraced His destiny of death on the cross. He knew His calling—and He did not hesitate to walk boldly into His arrest, beatings, and ultimately His crucifixion. At any moment He had the divine power to resist. Yet He willingly prepared Himself, through intimate prayer with His Father, to fulfill all the prophecies of Scripture. Because He resolutely embraced His suffering and death, today we have the hope of everlasting life. We can join with Jesus in praying that all of His purposes are fulfilled in our lives, as well. “Dear Lord Jesus, we give You all praise and glory for Your loving sacrifice on our behalf. Thank You for taking our sins upon Yourself, that through salvation, we might live forever with You. Fill us with the courage to walk boldly in all Your Kingdom purposes for our own lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 4: Jesus Gloriously Resurrected
After Jesus had finished praying, His greatest moments of glory were set in motion. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus prayed one of His greatest prayers just before His death. He prayed that He would bring glory to the Father by completing everything He was called to do. Today we celebrate the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus did indeed complete His Kingdom purposes here on earth—and His resurrection was that glorious moment that turned death into life and despair into hope. Let’s pray with joy and gratitude over Jesus’ resurrection. “Dear Lord Jesus, on this glorious Easter Day, we celebrate Your victory over sin and death. We rejoice in our own deliverance from sin through Your forgiveness. Thank You for salvation and the gift of eternal life. Your resurrection is truly a glorious moment that has changed us forever. We are grateful as recipients of Your great love and mercy. We praise You and pray all of this in Your name, Jesus…amen.”

April 5-10: Jesus on the Emmaus Road

April 5: Recognizing Jesus
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. After Jesus’ resurrection, two of Jesus’ followers were walking along the road toward Emmaus. They were talking about all that had happened the last few days, including the death of Jesus and His disappearance from the tomb. Suddenly Jesus appeared and began walking and talking with them. But Scripture says that God kept the men from recognizing Jesus. Imagine that—being with Jesus, but not really knowing Him. Our prayer should always be that our eyes will be opened to recognize Jesus in our midst! He is present—just look around you! “Dear Lord Jesus, we praise You that You are always with us. You love us and care for us, and You are always in our midst. Help us to recognize You and embrace You. May we not miss Your wonderful visitation, even as we pray and seek Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 6: Understanding the Truth
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus joined two of His followers on the road to Emmaus. Although they did not recognize Him, they chatted about the events of the past few days. They knew about Jesus as a great teacher who performed miracles. They knew about His death. And they had heard the amazing report that Jesus was now alive. They knew the prophetic Scriptures about Jesus. But they still did not recognize Jesus as their Messiah in their midst. How often people know the facts of Scripture, yet cannot embrace the truth of the living Jesus! “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray that our hearts will be opened to embrace You in all Your glory! May we not simply be well versed in Scripture, yet miss Your intimate presence in our midst. We receive You as our glorious Savior! In Your name, amen.”

April 7: Begging Jesus to Stay
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus joined two of His followers who were walking along the road to Emmaus. They talked with Him and repeated the story of His death and resurrection, but did not recognize Him. In fact, as they came to the end of their journey, Jesus planned to continue walking on. But the men begged Jesus to stay with them for the night. Although they did not recognize Jesus, there was something compelling about Him. Jesus received their invitation to stay a bit longer. Eventually, their eyes were opened and they recognized it was the Messiah in their midst! “Dear Lord Jesus, at times we simply do not recognize Your wonderful glory and majesty. Yet in Your grace, we are still drawn to You. We pray that You will stay with us until we can fully embrace You in all Your glory! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 8: Their Eyes Were Opened
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. The two men walked with Jesus on the Emmaus Road, but they did not recognize Him. They knew all about Him, but they were blind to Him. They were drawn to Him, yet did not know Him. That is, until Jesus took bread, broke it, and gave it to them to eat. In that moment of true fellowship, their eyes were opened and they recognized Him! To truly know Jesus, we must fellowship with Him through prayer. We must participate in times of communion with Him. Then we will truly recognize the Christ who is in our midst! “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray that You will draw us into deeper times of prayer and fellowship with You. Show us how to become more intimate with You. We pray for a greater recognition of Your presence and work in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 9: Hearts Strangely Warm
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus walked with two of His followers on the road to Emmaus. They did not recognize Him as the resurrected Messiah. Yet they were drawn to Him and chose to fellowship with Him. Suddenly Jesus opened their eyes and revealed Himself to them—and then disappeared! Yet they knew that their hearts had been warmed by His presence. They knew there was a fire burning within them as they spoke with Him. When we truly embrace the presence of Christ, our hearts are transformed with the fire of revival. “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray for that burning fire of Your presence to fill our hearts. We want to fully know You and embrace You. Please open our eyes to Your truths and cleanse us as we repent of our sins. Let the fire of Your reviving presence burn within us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 10: Take My Message of Repentance
The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is among us, but at times we do not recognize His presence! This is citywide call to prayer. When Jesus appeared to the disciples after His resurrection, He startled them. They were filled with joy and wonder, along with doubt all at the same time. But then Jesus opened their minds to understand the truths of the prophetic Scriptures. Suddenly they knew that Jesus was truly their Messiah! Then Jesus commissioned them to take the message of repentance to all the nations. Jesus gave them the authority to speak the truth of the gospel. They became bold because they knew they were in the presence of the resurrected and living Christ! “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray that You will open our minds to understand that truths of Your gospel. Fill us with confidence in Your truths. May we boldly speak the message of repentance. We pray for Your reviving presence to fill us and send us to the nations. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 11-17: A Nation Cries Out in Desperation

April 11: Desperate Times
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. When devastation strikes, people often turn back to God in desperate prayer. Reports coming from the nation of Haiti indicate that thousands of people are praying and crying out to God. Churches are being filled with many people coming to Christ. There is a movement of repentance among many of the believers there. Although we do not know if revival has truly come to Haiti, we do know that God hears the cries of His humble people. Perhaps we are witnessing a nation turning back to God. “Dear Heavenly Father, we join with the believers in Haiti in praying for that nation to turn to You. We pray for a great movement of repentance among the people of Haiti. May You pour out Your grace and mercy upon that nation, that they might experience revival and the healing of their land. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 12: Haiti Needs Revival!
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. On January 12, the earth groaned and trembled beneath the nation of Haiti. Within just seconds, hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives. Millions became homeless. It was a devastation that left the nation paralyzed with fear and hopelessness. Yet into that dark situation, God’s people began to pray. They gathered in churches to seek God. Many of them congregated in the streets, worshiping, praying, and repenting. They knew how desperately they needed God. They know there is no greater time for a heaven-sent revival in their nation. “Dear Heavenly Father, we join with the believers in Haiti and pray that You will send revival and heal their land. We pray for thousands to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. We ask You to use these desperate times for Your glory by bringing miraculous healing to their land. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 13: When Leaders Repent
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. Throughout the Old Testament, we read examples of desperate people who turned to God. Often it was through a leader who recognized their hopeless state and called for repentance. A profound example is the king of Nineveh. When Jonah announced the coming destruction, the king immediately left his throne, humbled himself, and cried out to God. He ordered the people to fast and pray for God’s mercy. God recognized their humility and did not carry out the intended destruction. A nation was spared because of a leader’s humility. “Dear Heavenly Father, we do not know if You are ready to judge our nation. But we know that we desperately need You. We pray that our leaders in our churches and nation will seek You in great humility and repentance. As Your people, may we humbly return to You, seeking Your mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 14: Return to the Lord
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. Devastation is often a motivator for people to repent and return to God. Throughout the earth, we are witnessing many kinds of devastation. Earthquakes, tsunamis, terrorist attacks, and other disasters are leaving multitudes of people desperate and hopeless. But God longs for us to return to Him in desperate times. In Zechariah 1:3, the Lord says, “Return to me, and I will return to You.” In all the places of devastation throughout nations, let’s pray that people will turn to God for His healing and restoration. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that wherever there is devastation throughout the earth, Your people will cry out to You with the hope for heaven-sent revival. We pray that as Your people return to You, they will once again experience healing. We pray for Your glory to be known throughout the nations of the earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 15: A Call to National Humility
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. You might be surprised to know that our nation was called to repentance during desperate times of the past. During the Civil War in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln called for a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer with these words: “It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon.” This declaration by President Lincoln recognized that our desperate need of mercy from Almighty God! “Dear Heavenly Father, we once again recognize the desperate need of forgiveness in our nation. We pray that Your people will truly humble themselves and seek You. We pray for Your mercy to be poured out upon our nation in true heaven-sent revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 16: A Cry for National Forgiveness
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. During the Civil War in 1863, President Abraham Lincoln called for a Day of National Humiliation, Fasting, and Prayer with these words: “Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.” Although President Lincoln made this plea almost 150 years ago, we are still in need of God’s forgiveness in our nation today. “Dear Heavenly Father, we are still self-sufficient as a nation. We are too proud to pray and cry out to You for mercy, and so we find ourselves in a desperate place again. We acknowledge our need and pray for Your mercy. Please send a true heaven-sent revival! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 17: Great Awakenings
In desperate times, people are confronted with the reality that there is no hope apart from God. This is citywide call to prayer. There have been times in our nation when our desperation has caused God’s people to cry out to Him. In those times, God was faithful to pour out the presence of Christ in revival. We’ve experienced Great Awakenings in the 1700s and 1800s with profound spiritual impact in our nation. Some would say we are about 150 years overdue for another national spiritual awakening. As the days grow darker, may our prayers grow more desperate for a true, heaven-sent revival! “Dear Heavenly Father, we know that it is Your heart to answer the cries of people who desperately seek You. We pray for our own nation, that You might pour out Your Spirit in revival. We pray that the lost will come to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Create a desperation in us, Oh God, to seek You in humility and repentance. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 18-24: Urgently Waiting

April 18: Urgently Waiting for Revival
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. Evelyn Christenson has been a leader in the international prayer movement for many years. At 88 years old, Evelyn is still praying and urgently waiting on the Lord to send revival. She has been praying for decades—as well as teaching others to pray. Her hope increases each day as she prays with great anticipation for that moment when God pours out His Spirit in revival. Evelyn knows that at exactly the right time, God will do it! “Dear Heavenly Father, we want to learn to pray with that same faith and anticipation for a heaven-sent revival. As we pray and urgently wait on You, we invite You to prepare our hearts to receive the fullness of Your manifest presence. Come, Lord Jesus! In Your name, amen.”

April 19: A Place of Expectation
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. To wait for something means to be in a place of expectation. If we are willing to wait, then we must believe that something is coming. If our hope rests in Jesus Christ alone, then we can pray with faith and fully expect that He will come and manifest Himself in our midst. This is the hope of revival. At exactly the right moment, the Lord Jesus Christ will come to us in a heaven-sent revival. This is what we urgently wait for! “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray with great anticipation and expectation that You are preparing to send a heaven-sent revival. We pray with faith, knowing this is in accordance with Your will. Our hearts urgently wait for You to pour out Your Spirit in revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 20: Waiting for the Lord
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. Scripture is full of examples of God’s people waiting for the greater thing. Faithful intercessors Simeon and Anna prayed and waited for years for the gift of Jesus their Messiah. The disciples also waited on the Lord after Jesus returned to heaven. In their waiting, they were blessed with the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Psalm 27 tells us to “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” As we pray for revival, we wait on the Lord with great anticipation. “Dear Lord Jesus, we pray with great faith that You will soon pour out a heaven-sent revival. We urgently wait on You, knowing that You will come at exactly the right time. We invite You, Lord Jesus, to come! In Your name, amen.”

April 21: Take Heart in Waiting
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. Undoubtedly there are longings of your heart that you have not yet seen fulfilled. You have prayed and waited and yearned in your soul for the Lord to send revival. Perhaps you even wonder at times if the Lord has turned a deaf ear to your cries. But be encouraged as you urgently wait on the Lord! God has put those prayers for revival on your heart, and He will respond in the fullness of time. Take heart and don’t give up! “Dear Heavenly Father, You understand how hard it is for us to wait for You to fulfill Your promises. But we trust Your perfect timing in answering our prayers. Help us to pray with faith and wait urgently for You to send revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 22: Fully Engaged in Prayer
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. What does it mean to “wait with urgency”? If you are urgent, you are compelled to call for immediate attention. That is the essence of waiting on the Lord with urgency. Instead of passively waiting for God to act, you are fully engaged in inviting the Lord to move in a powerful way, according to His purposes and His timing. Praying for revival means trusting the Lord, yet praying with urgency. “Dear Heavenly Father, show us how to pray and wait with urgency for You to send true revival. We trust Your timing and purposes, but yet we cry out to You with desperation. Please move on our behalf, awakening Your Church and bringing the lost to salvation in Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 23: How Long, O Lord?
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. The Prophet Habakkuk understood about urgently waiting for the Lord to act. In fact, he questioned the Lord about His timing by asking, “How long, O Lord, must I call for help?” The Lord graciously answered Habakkuk by saying that slowly, steadily the time was approaching when the vision would be fulfilled. He told Habakkuk to wait patiently because all of God’s promises would surely be fulfilled without delay. This is also our promise as we pray for revival. Surely, in God’s timing, it will come. Revival is on God’s heart! “Dear Heavenly Father, at times we wonder how long before You send true revival. But we trust Your timing and pray with that You will act on our behalf. Thank You for Your faithfulness to us! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 24: God’s Perfect Timing
Waiting on the Lord is a time of preparation and anticipation of even greater things to come. As we pray for revival, we urgently wait for God to respond to our cries. This is citywide call to prayer. No doubt there are things that you have longed and prayed for over a period of time. Perhaps you have grown tired of waiting. But take heart! If those prayers originated in the heart of our Heavenly Father, they will come to pass. If you are praying for revival, God has put that prayer burden on your heart. In His perfect timing, He will answer! “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for not hiding Your will from us. We pray with faith, expectancy, and even urgency that You will send revival to transform Your Church. We pray that You will bring many lost people to salvation in Jesus Christ. We believe that You will be faithful, in Your perfect timing, to move powerfully on behalf of Your people. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 25-30: When Repenters Repent

April 25: The Call to Holiness
As we pursue Christ and abide in His presence, we will be transformed into a revived and holy people. And the world will take notice! This is citywide call to prayer. Under the Communist rule in Romania in the 1970s, one pastor understood the power of repentance. He challenged his congregation to new levels of holiness, and the people responded. They turned from everything they thought the Lord might find displeasing. As a result, God was true to His Word and responded with revival. Those outside the church witnessed their actions and called them “repenters.” But when the repenters repented, God moved powerfully on their behalf. “Dear Heavenly Father, we know that revival will come when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins, and take seriously Your call to holiness. Please work in our hearts, that we might truly seek You. Show us, as repenters, how to truly repent. We pray that the world will know more of Your glory through a heaven-sent revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 26: Eyes Fixed on Jesus
As we pursue Christ and abide in His presence, we will be transformed into a revived and holy people. And the world will take notice! This is citywide call to prayer. Believers in Christ are called to a high standard of holiness. It may seem impossible to walk in true holiness, yet the Apostle Paul exhorted us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Paul did not claim to reach perfection, but he continued to pursue Christ. Paul wrote in Philippians 3 that he was focusing all his energies on one thing, which was forgetting the past, looking ahead, and straining to reach the end of the race. For Paul, his life was dedicated to holiness and the glory of Christ. “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to holiness. We know that we can be holy only as we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Please empower us through the Holy Spirit to pursue Christ with all of our heart and strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 27: Proportionate Holiness
As we pursue Christ and abide in His presence, we will be transformed into a revived and holy people. And the world will take notice! This is citywide call to prayer. Charles Spurgeon, a great preacher of the 1800s, made an observation about how holiness impacts the world. He stated that “in proportion as a church is holy, in that proportion will its testimony for Christ be powerful.” Spurgeon was saying, in other words, that the world will take seriously the message of Jesus Christ as much as the lives of believers demonstrate Christ’s holiness. The more holy we become as the people of God, there more we can proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that the world will hear. “Dear Heavenly Father, we know that becoming more Christ-like – and therefore holy – is the essence of revival. We pray for a movement of repentance and holiness in Your Church, that we might become powerful testimonies of Christ to the lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 28: The Cycle of Holiness
As we pursue Christ and abide in His presence, we will be transformed into a revived and holy people. And the world will take notice! This is citywide call to prayer. There is a cycle of holiness that fuels the Church in revival and offers hope to the lost. As God’s people repent of their sins, they pursue greater holy living. As the glory of Christ burns brighter in the lives of God’s people in revival, the lost are in turn introduced to salvation in Jesus Christ. The newly saved repent of their sins -- and then join the ranks of those pursuing holiness. It is cycle that keeps the Church alive in the power of the Holy Spirit! “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that the lost will come to salvation through Jesus Christ. May Your people walk in repentance and pursue holy living, so that the lost will be touched by the glory of Christ through revival. Call us to greater holiness! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 29: Ask Hard Questions
Praying for and seeking revival means being willing to repent, turn from sin, and pursue a life of holiness. This is citywide call to prayer. Pursing holiness is not about checking off a list of appropriate behaviors. But the more we pursue Christ, the more our desires and actions will align with God’s purposes. Ask yourself a few questions today, and then invite the Holy Spirit to convict you if necessary. How do you treat your family members? Do you love them unconditionally? What kind of entertainment do you pursue? Do you watch things that glorify infidelity or ungodly living? Where do you need to surrender to Christ? Imagine what God might do through believers in Christ who pursue holy living with clean hands and a pure heart! “Dear Heavenly Father, may Your Holy Spirit convict our hearts of sin today. May we repent and pursue holiness in a way that honors You and invites You to send true, heaven-sent revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

April 30: Being Serious About Revival
Praying for and seeking revival means being willing to repent, turn from sin, and pursue a life of holiness. This is citywide call to prayer. If we are serious about praying for revival, we will be serious about pursuing Jesus Christ and holy living. Ask yourself a few questions, and invite the Holy Spirit to convict you where necessary. How does your speech measure up with the Fruits of the Spirit? Is your speech rich with blessing and honor, or full of idle words? Is the thought of honoring Jesus Christ constantly on your mind? Do people know, without a doubt, that you are a Christ-follower? It is truly a joy to pursue holiness! “Dear Heavenly Father, we desperately need Your Spirit in pursuing holy living. We pray for conviction of sin, that we might live with clean hands and a pure heart. As we repent and pursue Christ, we pray for Your mercy and true heaven-sent revival in our midst. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Transcript for March 2010 Radio Spots:

March 1-6: Behind Closed Doors

March 1: Closed Door Moment
Some of the greatest work in God’s Kingdom is done in those alone moments behind closed doors. This is citywide call to prayer. The Prophet Elisha had a closed door moment in prayer. Scripture says that when he came upon a young boy who had died, Elisha prayed for him to be raised back to life. But he did not do it with a lot of fanfare. Instead, he went into the room alone and closed the door. Behind that closed door, Elisha prayed fervently that God would restore the boy to life—and God did! Great Kingdom work is done in those quiet places when we are alone with God, pouring out our hearts in prayer. “Dear Heavenly Father, we desperately need You to breathe life back into hopeless situations. Help us to set aside those times when we are alone with You, praying with faith for Your miraculous work. Let us grow deeper in our faith in those times that we quietly seek You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 2: Breathe New Life
Some of the greatest work in God’s Kingdom is done in those alone moments behind closed doors. This is citywide call to prayer. The little boy was dead. Yet Elisha believed God could restore anyone to life. He entered the room with the dead child, closed the door, and began praying. Elisha stretched out over the lifeless body – face to face, hands to hands. As he prayed, life returned to the child. In the same way, God uses our alone times with Him in prayer to breathe life back into those things that we thought were dead. He meets us in those times behind closed doors when we have no hope left except to seek Him. “Dear Heavenly Father, We praise You that You invite us into alone times with You. When we are behind closed doors, pleading with You to breathe new life into hopeless situations, You are ready to hear us. Give us the faith to believe You and to never stop praying. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 3: Never Give Up
Some of the greatest work in God’s Kingdom is done in those alone moments behind closed doors. This is citywide call to prayer. Elisha sought God for the miracle of raising a dead boy to life. He did so behind a closed door, without a lot of fanfare. And God breathed life back into a little boy. In the same way, there are the times when we are alone, praying and seeking God for revival of the church and the salvation of the lost through Jesus Christ. At times our faith is really tested. Are we willing to cry out to God for the sake of others, even if no one else joins us? “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the courage to seek You with all our hearts, even if we are alone in those prayers. May we always pray with faith for revival and the salvation of the lost, knowing that You delight to hear our prayers of faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 4: Don’t Neglect Alone Times
Some of the greatest work in God’s Kingdom is done in those alone moments behind closed doors. This is citywide call to prayer. Being alone with God in prayer, behind a closed door, can be a powerful time in prayer. During this time God can refine us and prepare us to walk in the power of His Spirit. He can reveal the deep places in our hearts where we must repent of our sins. He will touch the wounded places that need healing. And He wants to restore us to the hope of the Lord Jesus Christ as our true salvation. Don’t neglect your times alone with the Lord in prayer. He wants to do a miraculous work in your life! “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for always desiring to speak to us, heal us, and restore us. May we seek You more faithfully during those alone times, that You might quietly speak hope into our lives as we learn to trust You more. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 5: Hours Alone with God
Spending hours alone with God brings great power and clarity when we seek Him with all our hearts. This is citywide call to prayer. Oswald J. Smith, a Canadian pastor and author, makes this observation about those who spend time alone with God: “So far as I have read the biographies of anointed men, they have come from their knees with the power of God resting on them, and the fire of the Holy Spirit burning in their souls. I am perfectly confident that the man who does not spend hours alone with God will never know the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The world must be left outside until God alone fills that vision.” Today, let’s surrender ourselves to alone time with God. “Dear Heavenly Father, teach us to seek You with all our hearts. Help us to rearrange our lives so that we learn to spend hours alone with You. We pray that You will become the greatest passion of our hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 6: Jesus and Alone Time
When Jesus faced His greatest moment of agony, He sought to be alone with His Heavenly Father. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus brought His trusted disciples with Him to the Garden just before His death. Yet in that greatest moment of need, Jesus sought to be alone in His prayer with God. Jesus left the disciples behind and approached His Father. In that distressed exchange, Jesus wrestled, wept, and cried out to God. In that alone time, Jesus was assured of His Father’s love and empowered to walk the way of death for the sake of others. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that You will draw us into those alone times with You, that we might know You more intimately and experience the revival of our hearts. We pray that in our alone times with You, we will be filled with the courage and boldness to walk in obedience to You. May we learn to trust You with our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 7-13: Do You Really Believe?

March 7: Believing for the Lost
Do you believe that God can supernaturally saturate your community and reveal Himself to those held in spiritual captivity? This is citywide call to prayer. A very humble man named Victor wanted to reach a village in the jungles of Peru that was resistant to the gospel. So he memorized the names of every person who lived there. Then for 14 hours straight, Victor knelt and prayed for each person by name, asking for their salvation. The following day the village elders welcomed him and said an angel had appeared to them and told them that a man would be coming with good news. Miraculously, the entire village responded to the gospel message. God supernaturally went before Victor in response to his prayers. “Dear Heavenly Father, we desire that same faith that believes in Your power to bring salvation to entire communities. Teach us to pray with belief and hope that You want to work supernaturally to bring the lost to Christ through our prayers. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 8: Evidence of Your Belief
Do you believe that God can supernaturally saturate your community and reveal Himself to those held in spiritual captivity? This is citywide call to prayer. Your belief in God’s power through prayer will be evidenced by your willingness to rearrange your priorities to seek Him. If we truly believe the promises of God’s Word and His desire to answer prayer, we will partner with God in strategic and powerful prayers. We will pray with faith and belief that the spiritually lost in our communities can experience the supernatural salvation of Jesus Christ. This is worth rearranging our lives and praying with hope and belief! “Dear Heavenly Father, we confess the times that our prayer lives do not reflect true belief in Your supernatural power to saturate our communities with Your presence. We pray for a movement of Your Spirit that brings the lost to salvation in Jesus Christ. Fill us with the faith to pray faithfully for those things that seem impossible. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 9: Our Limited Vision
At times our limited spiritual vision can keep us from praying with faith when the obstacles and spiritual opposition seem overwhelming. This is citywide call to prayer. Elisha’s servant experienced tremendous fear when they were surrounded by enemy troops, horses, and chariots. His limited vision allowed him to see only the insurmountable opposition. But Elisha prayed and asked God to open his servant’s eyes to see the true spiritual realities. In that moment, Elisha’s servant saw the horses and chariots of fire surrounding them. He got a glimpse of God’s army – and he was no longer afraid. “Heavenly Father, we confess we get discouraged because we cannot see past the obstacles and spiritual opposition surrounding us. Please open our eyes to see that You are powerfully on our side when we faithfully seek You in prayer. We pray with hope for revival in the midst of great darkness. Give us spiritual eyes to pray with great faith for Your mighty work in our midst. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 10: Do Not Be Discouraged
At times our limited spiritual vision can keep us from praying with faith when the obstacles and spiritual opposition seem overwhelming. This is citywide call to prayer. When Elisha was surrounded by the enemy, his servant responded in fear. But Elisha prayed for the Lord to open his servant’s eyes so that he could see the mighty army of the Lord. When we cannot see the spiritual realities around us, we may draw the wrong conclusion. We become paralyzed with hopelessness, when in reality God is much more powerful than any enemy. When we become discouraged about overwhelming darkness in our nation, we can pray with faith for a great spiritual awakening. There are more on the side of the Lord than on the side of darkness! “Dear Heavenly Father, open our spiritual eyes to the hope of a spiritual awakening in our nation. May we not be discouraged by the darkness, but instead pray with faith for a great revival in our nation. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 11: Nothing Is Hopeless
At times our limited spiritual vision can keep us from praying with faith when the obstacles and spiritual opposition seem overwhelming. This is citywide call to prayer. Our world seems destined for destruction. The darkness around us invades our lives. But do not lose hope. Do not give up. When Elisha was surrounded by his enemies, it seemed hopeless. Yet Elisha knew the true spiritual reality – that the armies of God were stronger than any of his enemies. He rested in that confidence. Whatever seemingly hopeless situation you are facing, God is calling you to seek Him by faith in fervent prayer. It may take day after day of faithful prayer, but do not be fooled those who say there is no hope. God is on our side! “Dear Heavenly Father, please keep our eyes opened to Your true spiritual realities. May we pray with faith regardless of seemingly hopeless circumstances. Remind us that You are far more powerful than any obstacle or spiritual opposition. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 12: Supernatural Moments Await
Our best efforts in God’s Kingdom are done on our knees. If we truly believe this, we will ask for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to pray for God’s supernatural work. This is citywide call to prayer. There are supernatural moments awaiting us. As we pray for revival, we can believe God for His desire to awaken His Church and pour out the saving grace of Jesus Christ upon the lost. When we fall to our knees in desperation for God, believing that He is our only hope, there are supernatural times of refreshing and revival awaiting us! “Dear Heavenly Father, at times we lose hope when we look at the world around us. But You are waiting for us to seek You in desperation for a mighty move of Your Holy Spirit. We pray with faith for the revival of Your Church and the salvation of the lost in Jesus Christ. We pray for Your supernatural work in our midst. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 13: Amazing Moment in History
As we pray for revival, we can believe God for His desire to awaken His Church and pour out the saving grace of Jesus Christ on the lost. This is citywide call to prayer. Psalm 85 speaks of the hope of our land being filled with the glory of the Lord through revival. As the Psalmist says, “Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you?” God chooses to work through us as partners with Him in this amazing moment in the history of the Church. Let’s pray with hope that the Lord will once again send revival to our land. “Dear Heavenly Father, we confess there are times when we simply do not have the faith to believe that revival is coming. Please fill us with the courage and unceasing faith to pray that You will awaken the Church and bring the lost to salvation through Jesus Christ. Open our eyes that we might see the hope of Your glory! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 14-20: The Power of Humility

March 14: Humble Yourself
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. After preaching this message, Madan invited church members to pray for the cleansing of their hearts. Madan joined a Chinese man in prayer, listening to his confession of sin. Suddenly this man surprised Madan by confessing that he did not want to pray with Madan because of his nationality. “My country of China has been at war with your country of India,” the man stated. He then repented of his prejudice toward Madan – and together they prayed for the salvation of this man’s family in China. That night, this man led his sister to salvation in Jesus Christ over the phone, something she had resisted for years. When this man humbled himself, God responded powerfully to his prayers. “Dear Heavenly Father, may we always walk in humility before You, that You might hear and answer our prayers. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 15: Show Us the Way of Humility
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. God delights in drawing near to the humble and hearing their prayers. Daniel experienced this when he mourned, fasted, and prayed for 21 days. When he had a vision of the Lord Jesus Christ, he was overcome with fear and trembling. But he heard a voice say, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before God, your request has been heard in heaven.” Even today, we can walk in the assurance that the Lord delights in hearing the prayers of those who are humble in heart. “Dear Heavenly Father, we choose to humble ourselves before You in prayer. We repent of our pride and sin. Please show us the way of humility and draw near to us, Oh God, and hear our prayers. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 16: Humility Means Desperation
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. Although some may define humility as the absence of pride, it is much more than that. Humility is the recognition of how desperately we need God. It is the understanding of how little we know or can do apart from Him. When we pray for revival, we must start at the point of humility, which ushers in brokenness. That in turn leads toward true repentance of sins and surrender to God. God hears the prayers of the humble of heart. “Dear Heavenly Father, as we pray for revival, we realize that it must begin with humble hearts. Please show us our places of pride and sin, that we might humble ourselves before You. As we pray, show us what it means to walk in true humility. May our lives glorify the Lord Jesus Christ alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 17: Recognizing God’s Magnificence
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. Job experienced perhaps one of the most powerful lessons in humility ever offered by the Creator. After Job debated with his friends about God and His ways, God Himself interrupted and asked Job a few questions. Where does light come from and where does darkness go? Can you shout to the clouds and make it rain? These questions brought Job to a place of deep humility. True humility is recognizing the magnificence of God and walking in awe of Him. “Dear Heavenly Father, we repent of thinking we can explain You and all of Your creation. Instead, we humble ourselves before You and ask for Your mercy and grace. Help us to recognize our desperate need for You. May our lives reflect Your glory as we walk in humility before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 18: Humility Means Confessing All Sin
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. God assures us that He hears the prayers of the humble heart. True humility is characterized by a heart that is willing to confess all known sin. Humility means never assuming that you have nothing left to confess. Even the Apostle Paul claimed that he was the chief of all sinners, yet he walked in the power of the Spirit because of his humility. “Dear Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that You freely offer forgiveness of sins. Please show us how to truly humble ourselves and walk in a lifestyle of repentance. Help us to always be aware of how much our hearts need to be cleansed. Please fill us with the power of Your Holy Spirit, that we might honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ in all we do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 19: The Humility of Jesus
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. God assures us that He hears the prayers of the humble heart. But truly humble people know that they cannot begin to compare themselves to the example of the humility of the Lord Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us that Jesus willingly took upon Himself the position of a slave. He obediently humbled Himself further by dying a criminal’s death on the cross. But in doing so, God raised Him up to the heights of heaven and declared that all will bow at the name of Jesus. Jesus is the true example of humility. “Dear Lord Jesus, we praise and honor Your name. We bow before You in humility, exalting You above all things. Thank You for Your incredible love and example of humility. May we always live in true humility and brokenness before You. In Your name, amen.”

March 20: The Humility of Jesus
If revival is to come, we must humble ourselves and repent, allowing the Holy Spirit to work through clean hands and a pure heart. This is citywide call to prayer. In James 5:16, we are told there is true power in the prayers of those who are righteous before God. We are told to confess our sins to each other and pray for each other, so that we can be healed. In doing so, we are assured that our prayers will be acknowledge by the Almighty God. It is God’s nature to pour out His Spirit in revival in the midst of those who have humbled themselves, confessed their sins, and desperately sought Him. It is an invitation for God to come and dwell among us in true, heaven-sent revival! “Dear Heavenly Father, we confess our sins and humble ourselves before You. We are desperate for a visitation of Your Holy Presence, that we might be healed and revived. Come, Lord Jesus! In Your name, amen.”

March 21-31: Don’t Fear Brokenness

March 21: Don’t Fear Brokenness
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Many people fear brokenness, as they believe it means pain and devastation. But true brokenness means allowing the hard places in our hearts to be touched by the healing and restoring power of Jesus Christ. Just as a jackhammer is used to break up hard places so that something new can be birthed, so brokenness invites new life. When we open our hearts to the work of the Holy Spirit, those hard places can be touched by the Spirit’s gentle promptings. Our willingness to repent will refresh and restore our hearts. Don’t fear God’s invitation to brokenness! “Dear Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that we have hard places in our hearts that need the touch of Your Spirit. We invite You to lead us into brokenness, that we might be healed and made new in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 22: A Contrite Heart
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Brokenness should not be feared. It is a loving gift from the Lord. King David knew the place of brokenness. After his sin with Bathsheba, he knew that a broken and contrite heart was the key to restoration. David acknowledges in Psalm 51:17 that “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” In this context, the word contrite means to be pulverized, crushed into small particles, or ground into powder. In that place, the Lord promises to rebuild our hearts for His glory. “Dear Heavenly Father, we invite You to search our hearts. Show us those hard places that need to be broken before You. As we offer our contrite hearts to You, we pray that You will heal and restore us as a true sacrifice. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 23: God Dwells with the Broken
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. According to Isaiah 57, God dwells both in the high and lofty places, but also with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit. His purpose is to revive the hearts of those who embrace brokenness. Brokenness draws the very presence of the living God. “Dear Heavenly Father, we acknowledge our desperate need for Your reviving work in our lives. We pray that You will guide us into true brokenness, that we might repent and receive forgiveness through the Lord Jesus Christ. Take away our fears of being broken, and replace those fears with the courage to allow the Holy Spirit to examine our hearts. As we seek true brokenness, we pray for the fulfillment of Your promise to both revive and dwell with those who are broken and contrite in spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 24: Become a Broken Christian
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. A missionary from a region in Africa that has experienced revival notes an unusual perspective on brokenness. The African Christians who know of true revival place a very high value on brokenness. When they meet a new Christian, they are not concerned about whether that believer is a committed Christian or strong in faith. They want to know if that person is a broken Christian. They know that true brokenness is the pathway to repentance and true revival – and is to be greatly valued. “Dear Heavenly Father, may we be known as broken Christians. May we not rest our identity on whether we serve You well. Rather, may our lives be known for those places of brokenness that have brought us to repentance and restoration in You. May You be glorified through our brokenness. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 25: Seeing Your Own Need
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people focus on the failures of others and can readily point out their faults. But broken people are more conscious of their own spiritual needs than anyone else’s needs. Broken people see only their desperate need for God. As you seek God for brokenness in your own life, consider how you view other people and their failures. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for focusing on the failures of others. I repent of my pride in thinking that I am better than others. I acknowledge my own deep spiritual needs and pray that You will forgive me and restore my heart to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 26: A Forgiving Spirit
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people have a critical, fault-finding spirit. They look at everyone else’s faults with a microscope, but view their own faults with a telescope. On the other hand, broken people are compassionate. They have the kind of love that overlooks a multitude of sins. They can forgive much because they know how much they have been forgiven. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for lacking compassion toward those who need forgiveness. I recognize my own desperate need – and I pray that I will learn to be more forgiving toward others. Lead me into true brokenness and set me free from an unforgiving spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 27: Not Our Own Reputation
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people are more concerned about the consequences of their sin. They are disturbed over the problems caused by their sin, such as problems in their marriage. Broken people, however, are more concerned about how their sin has grieved and dishonored God than they are about the problems it has created in their lives. This is true brokenness over sin. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for being more concerned about our reputations or the unfortunate consequences of our sin. We pray that we will be more concerned about Your reputation and how our sin grieves You. We pray that our hearts will be truly broken before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 28: Heart Attitude of Repentance
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people don’t think they need to repent of anything. They think they are just fine with God. Broken people, however, realize that they need to maintain a continual heart attitude of repentance. They know how desperately they need to embrace a lifestyle of repentance. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for thinking we are free from sin and the need for repentance. We pray instead that our hearts will always be sensitive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, that we might daily receive the forgiveness of sins through the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for loving us and forgiving us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 29: Desperate for Revival
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people don’t think they need revival, but they are sure everyone else does. They can easily point out everyone else’s needs. Broken people, however, continually sense their need for a fresh encounter with God. They also know that they daily need a fresh filling of His Holy Spirit. They are desperate for revival in their own hearts. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for the sin of thinking that we do not need Your healing, restoring and forgiving work in our lives. Please fill us daily with Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for Your forgiveness of our sins and the refreshing of our hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

March 30: So Much to Learn
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people feel confident in how much they know. Broken people, however, are humbled by how much they have to learn. Broken people know they are continuously dependent on the wisdom of the Lord to walk in obedience to God. They put no confidence in their own knowledge, but continuously seek the Lord on all things. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for ever putting confidence in our own knowledge. We acknowledge our desperate need for You. We know that true wisdom comes from You alone. We pray that we will walk humbly before You and seek You in all things. We need You, Lord Jesus. In Your name, amen.”

March 31: All Praise to Jesus Alone
Brokenness is a key to revival. New life comes out of brokenness, which leads to repentance and restoration in Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss is an author and speaker on true, heaven-sent revival. She offers several comparisons between a proud person and a broken person as the path to revival. According to Nancy, proud people focus on what they can do for God. They believe their gifts are special and should be acknowledge by others. Broken people, however, recognize they have nothing to offer except the life of Jesus flowing through their broken lives. They know that any praise belongs to the Lord alone. “Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for thinking our giftedness should be honored by others. Rather, Lord, we are so grateful that You would choose to work through us in any way. We invite You to bring brokenness into our lives so that only the life of Jesus Christ can be seen in us. In Christ’s name, amen.”

Transcript for February 2010 Radio Spots:

February 1-6: Revival Principle: Divine Magnetism

February 1: A Cloud of God’s Presence
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. During the Great Awakening of 1857, a fascinating spiritual experience occurred along the eastern seaboard of the United States. While revival fires were spreading throughout the countryside, there was also a cloud of God’s presence that extended 100 miles out to sea. Sailors on ships would fall to their knees in repentance before reaching the harbor. The power and presence of God was everywhere—and it was God alone drawing men to Himself. “Dear Heavenly Father, we desire the kind of revival that is characterized by Your powerful presence and convicting power. We pray that You will again visit us in such wonderful ways that all people will be drawn to You in repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. We pray that You will always be the main attraction of our devotion. We ask this in Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 2: Divine Magnetism
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. This attraction is called “divine magnetism.” It is the power of God alone to draw sinners to Himself for their salvation. Although God often moves through anointed preaching or other means of sharing the gospel, He is not dependent on man. He does not need to be marketed through a clever advertising campaign. He can bring conviction of sin without a word being spoken. This divine magnetism is how God Himself saturates people with an awesome awareness of His holiness in revival. “Dear Heavenly Father, we are so thankful for the power of Your holy presence to convict us of sin and transform our hearts. We praise You for Your divine magnetism that overwhelms us with Your holiness. We pray for a heaven-sent revival that saturates our lives and communities with Your divine presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 3: A Holy Encounter
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. In the Hebrides revival of 1949, the Holy Spirit overpowered more than 100 young people in a dance hall. They often gathered there, enjoying themselves without any concern about spiritual matters. But one night revival fire fell upon the local church, and God’s presence instantly spread to the dance hall. People found themselves inexplicably drawn to the church, many of them giving their lives to Christ. It was the divine magnetism of God alone that drew these young people into a holy encounter with Him. “Dear Heavenly Father, we are amazed at the thought of Your power and presence so invading a community! We pray for a revival where Your presence powerfully draws people to Yourself. May we experience the salvation of many throughout our communities through Your divine magnetism in revival fires! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 4: Drawing People from Afar
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. In the Second Great Awakening of the 1800s, more than 20,000 people were drawn to Cane Ridge, Kentucky—a very sparsely populated area. But God’s drawing power—His divine magnetism—was so great that people came from miles around. There was no media campaign, yet they walked for days or traveled by wagon. God Himself was drawing people from afar into a holy encounter with Christ. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray with repentant hearts that the fire of Your presence will fall upon us in such away that people are drawn into true repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ. We repent of trying to think of clever ways to spread Your gospel apart from the power of prayer. We pray for Your divine magnetism to draw people through revival fires in our churches and communities. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 5: God’s Fire Falls!
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. God’s Word demonstrates His desire to send the fire of His presence in unmistakable ways. This divine magnetism proves His power and convicts people in light of His holiness. It is the kind of power that people experienced on Mt. Carmel when Elijah invited God to show Himself to the prophets of Baal. When the fire of God flashed from heaven and burned up everything—including the rocks—the people fell face down before God. The presence of God was unmistakable, and people acknowledged Him as the only true God! “Dear Heavenly Father, You are the only true God. We pray that You will again demonstrate Your power and holiness to all people. Please send the fire of Your presence in a revival brings us to humility and repentance before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 6: The Divine Magnetism of Jesus
In a true revival, there is just one main attraction. It is God Himself through the drawing power of the Holy Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. When Jesus walked this earth, people were attracted to His love and compassion. People were so drawn by the divine magnetism of Jesus that they could not resist following Him, hoping to experience His healing touch. Jesus brought freedom from sickness, pain, demonic harassment, paralysis, and sin. The crowds were drawn to the hope found in Christ. When true revival comes, this divine magnetism in the form of the presence of the living Jesus Christ will again draw people to Him. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray with repentant hearts for a revival to sweep our nation with the power and presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray that all people will be drawn to salvation in Christ alone. We pray for a day soon when Jesus is the main attraction for the entire world! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 7 – 13: Prepare for Rain

February 7: Prepare for Rain
If we desire God to send revival, we can ask Him to prepare our hearts to receive the gracious and miraculous outpouring of His Spirit. This is citywide call to prayer. The story is told of two farmers who prayed for rain that they desperately needed for their fields. But only one of them went out and prepared his field to receive the rain. Which farmer believed and trusted God to send the rain? It was the farmer who had the faith to prepare his field. As we pray for revival, we can ask God to prepare our hearts to receive the outpouring of His Spirit. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that our hearts will be fully prepared to receive the rains of Your revival. Fill us with hope, faith, and expectation that You will send revival when we humble ourselves and seek You with repentant hearts. We pray for increased longing in our hearts for the refreshing rains of Your revival in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 8: The Gift of Devotion
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God for the gift of devotion. In Acts 2, we read that the Apostles devoted themselves to prayer, fellowship, the Lord’s Supper, and the teaching of God’s Word. Their lives were dedicated to seeking the Lord. As you pray for the Lord to send revival, ask Him to stir a deep desire in your heart for prayer and the study of God’s Word. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the gift of devotion to You. We invite You to fill us with a new passion for You that compels us to spend time daily in Your presence. As we pray for revival, may our hearts be more devoted to seeking You and loving You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 9: The Gift of Repentance
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God for the gift of repentance. Pray that the Lord will show you about true repentance. This comes from God revealing the true condition of your heart in light of His holiness. By His grace and mercy, you can then experience a miraculous cleansing and refreshing of your soul. Repentance is truly a gift! “Dear Heavenly Father, we ask You to prepare our hearts for revival by giving us the gift of repentance. We pray for Your Holy Spirit to reveal the true condition of our hearts, that we might repent fully and receive Your forgiveness. We pray that the repentance of Your people will prepare the way for true revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 10: The Gift of Community
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God to give us the gift of community. The early Church met to pray and worship together in community. Many believers were added to their numbers as gathered together to seek God daily. As we seek God for revival, it is a blessing to pray with others in a unified community. We can encourage each other to stay faithful in prayer, even when we don’t yet see the evidences of revival. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the gift of community that draws believers to pray together with faith and hope. We pray that You will bring unity throughout Your Church, that we might pray as friends and experience Your powerful presence through revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 11: The Gift of a Burdened Heart
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God for the gift of a burdened heart. Ask Him to increase your sorrow at the spiritual decline of the Church, so that you might pray with love. Invite Him to burden you for the lost, so that you can pray with faith for their salvation in Jesus Christ. As the Lord shows you His heart for all people—you can pray with a loving and burdened heart. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the gift of a burdened heart, that we might pray with love for the lost. We pray that our hearts will also be burdened for Your Church that so desperately needs revival. May our prayers be reflective of Your mercy toward all people. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 12: The Gift of Surrender
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God for the gift of surrender. Our hope for our troubled world rests in God’s gracious blessing of His manifest presence in revival. As He revives His Church, we are also assured that many unbelievers will come to faith in Jesus Christ. This truth helps us surrender our lives and our selfish desires completely to God’s Kingdom purposes. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the gift of surrender, that we might give our lives fully to You. We pray that we will give up our own selfish desires for the sake of Your glory in revival. Show us how to pray with fully surrendered lives so that the lost might find salvation through Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 13: The Gift of Quiet Confidence
God promises to send revival in response to the faithful prayers of His people. As we pray, we can ask God for gifts that will prepare our hearts to receive true heaven-sent revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In preparation for revival, we can ask God for the gift of quiet confidence. As we are convinced of the reign and rule of Jesus Christ in a shaken world, we will pray with quiet confidence in Him. We can pray according to the promise of Isaiah 32:17, which says that the righteousness of Christ will bring peace—and quietness and confidence will fill the land forever. This is the hope of revival! “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the gift of quiet confidence as we place our trust fully in Jesus Christ for the hope of revival. We pray that our faith in Christ will not be shaken, and that through our humble and repentant prayers, You will bless us with a heaven-sent revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 14-20: For the Sake of Others

February 14: Others Depend on It
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. You have family members and friends who have not yet embraced the gift of salvation. They are depending on you to pray for them. You know of other families that have been devastated by sin and heartbreaking situations. Oh, how they need your prayers! If God’s Word says that our humble and repentant prayers make a difference, then other people’s lives are dependent on our willingness to obey. “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14. Give us the faith to believe that our prayers will truly make a difference in the hope for revival and the healing of our land. Help us to walk in humility and repentance for the sake of others. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 15: It’s Worth It!
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. If revival comes to our churches and communities, it means that the manifest presence of Jesus Christ will call believers into a dynamic faith that will turn the world upside down—just as the disciples did. Revival means the awakening of the Church and the salvation of the lost. It means countless people experiencing the healing of the Lord Jesus Christ. Isn’t this worth giving our lives to the hope of revival? “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for the faith to take You at Your Word. Help us to live according to Your truths and pray according to Your promises. Show us that giving our lives to prayer and the hope of revival is worth it! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 16: A Repentant Lifestyle
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. Taking God at His Word means we are willing to live a repentant lifestyle for the sake of others. This is a lifestyle that examines all actions and thoughts in the light of the holiness of God. A truly repentant person knows he or she has never arrived, but with God’s help can walk in humility and repentance for the sake of others. “Dear Heavenly Father, we desire a repentant lifestyle that ushers in the hope for revival. Help us by Your Spirit to resist temptation and instead live according to Your covenant promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14. Please empower us to walk in humility before You, for the sake of others in the hope of revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 17: Embracing Godly Sorrow
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. Having experienced God’s forgiveness, a repentant person desperately desires others to experience the same freedom from sin and release from shame. Those who have experienced both the pain of sin and the joy of forgiveness will pray with passion for all to experience life-giving repentance through Jesus Christ. They know this path of repentance leads to revival and restoration—and they will pray for that godly sorrow for others. “Dear Heavenly Father, Your Word says that godly sorrow leads to repentance, which leads to the hope of revival. We ask You to give us the passion to pray for all to experience the true joy of repentance through godly sorrow. This is the path to wonderful healing and restoration. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 18: Pursuing Christ-likeness
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. There is no greater call on your life than to pursue Christ-likeness. God gives His people specific assignments, but our greatest calling is to become more like Christ. This pursuit of the reign of Christ in our lives will usher in the fire of God’s presence in revival. Are you willing to surrender your life in such a way that others will be blessed by the power of presence of Christ living and active in you? “Dear Heavenly Father, we desire the glory of Christ to reign in our lives. Give us the passion and strength to pursue Christ-likeness in our lives, that we might reflect the glory of Christ and help usher in a great revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 19: Precious Treasure
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. In 2 Corinthians 4, the Apostle Paul describes the glory of God seen in the face of Jesus Christ. This same glory is also seen in followers of Jesus Christ, although we are called “perishable containers.” When we humble ourselves according to God’s covenant promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14, our weak bodies will reflect the glorious power of God—and all will know that it is Christ in us and nothing we can accomplish on our own. “Dear Heavenly Father, we are weak and frail vessels. Yet the hope of revival is the glory of Christ seen through us. We pray that as we humble ourselves, repent, and seek Your face, Your glory will be seen through us in a dark world. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 20: God-given Role
God promises to send revival and heal our land if we humble ourselves, seek Him in prayer, and repent. If we believe this promise to be true, then many lives depend on our willingness to take God at His Word. This is citywide call to prayer. Other lives depend on our willingness to step into our God-given roles. God calls us to live repentant lifestyles according to 2 Chronicles 7:14. He looks for our humility and repentant prayers as the key to ushering in the healing of the land. Our willingness to embrace our calling to stand in the gap on behalf of others is the hope of revival for a lost world. “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the role to stand in the gap on behalf of others. We praise You that our repentant lifestyles can change all of society with the hope of revival. We pray that we will be faithful to our calling for the sake of others. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 21-28: The Centrality of God’s Word in Revival

February 21: God’s Word Is Key
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. The more he preached the Word of God, the more people were drawn by God’s Spirit to listen. George Whitfield was a great revivalist preacher in the 1700s known for preaching outdoors. Great crowds of several thousand would gather to hear messages of repentance and holy living. God used Whitfield and his commitment to the truths of Scripture to fan the flames of revival in our nation. The centrality of God’s Word is critical to revival. “Dear Heavenly Father, we praise you for the gift of Your Word. We pray that Your Holy Spirit will enlighten us to the truths of Scripture and convict us accordingly. We pray for a revival that starts with the truths of Your Word, and is sustained by our obedience to those truths. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 22: Power in the Word
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. George Whitfield was used of God to fan the flames of revival in the United States in the 1700s. Large crowds often came to hear his preaching on repentance and holiness. Whitfield attributed this drawing power to daily prayer and reading God’s Word. As he writes, “I began to read the Holy Scriptures upon my knees, laying aside all other books and praying over, if possible, every line and word….I daily received fresh light and power from above.” Whitfield knew the power of his preaching rested in the truths of God’s Word. “Dear Heavenly Father, Your Word is powerful and the source of all truth. Teach us to pray with confidence according to the promises of Scriptures. May Your Word be the foundation of our prayer lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 23: Embracing God’s Truths
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. Historically speaking, those who have been used of God in revival are those who deeply embrace the truths of God’s Word. They apply these truths to their own lives, while seeking God in fervent prayer. The Holy Spirit works through God’s Word to reveal His holiness. It is in the light of this truth that God calls His people to repent—which is the start of true revival. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for revival that is saturated by the truths of Your Word. We ask You to reveal Your holiness as we embrace Your Holy Word, that we might repent fully and be cleansed of all sin. Thank You for giving us such a wonderful guide to lead us on the path to repentance and revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 24: The Plumb Line
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. God’s Word is the true measurement of our sinfulness verses His holiness. Without the truths of His Word, we cannot know how far we have drifted from God. God spoke to the Prophet Amos about setting a plumb line as a measurement of righteousness among His people. The Bible is a tried and true plumb line for us today. If we are not in complete alignment with God’s Word in every area of our lives, we have a problem. We have a desperate need for repentance. Trust the Word of God as a true measurement! “Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the plumb line of Your Word. Please use Your truths to reveal the true condition of our hearts, that we might repent and realign ourselves with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 25: God’s Word Brings Freedom
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. Knowing the truth of God’s Word leads us to the hope of seeking Him for revival. After rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, Ezra the priest brought the Word of God to the people. Nehemiah 8 says that Ezra read the Scriptures for six hours—and all the people paid close attention! Those truths gave the people great freedom to worship God with joy at His mercy to them. “Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You for the hope that we find in Your Word. Your promises to be faithful to Your people give us the courage to seek You for the impossible. Thank You for reminding us in Your Word of Your mercy and grace. It is with this confidence that we pray toward the hope of revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 26: God’s Word Brings Conviction
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. Knowing the truth of God’s Word leads us to true repentance and the desire to seek Him for revival. After the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt, God’s Word was read to the throngs of people. Nehemiah 9 says that they fasted and mourned as Scripture was read to them for three hours. The people, understanding their need for God’s forgiveness, spent another three hours taking turns while they confessed their sins. That’s the power of God’s Word to convict! “Dear Heavenly Father, we are so grateful for Your Word, as the Holy Spirit works through it to convict us of sin. We pray that we will immerse ourselves more and more in Your Holy Scriptures, that we might repent of our sins and find the freedom of forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 27: Word-Centered Revival
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. Henry Blackaby, a historian on revivals, notes that short-lived revivals come when a revival is experience-oriented rather than Word-centered. He states in his book Fresh Encounter, “Experience and emotional response to God can carry you only so far. The deep and long-lasting revivals in history have been Word-centered revivals. As people return to God and His plumb line, lives churches, cities and whole nations have experienced deep and lasting change.” As Dr. Blackaby points out, true revival is centered on God’s Word. “Heavenly Father, we desire a long-lasting revival that will cleanse the Church and bring spiritual awakening to our nation. We pray for the truth of Your Word to convict us of sin and show us the way toward holy living and the hope for revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

February 28: A True Measurement of Revival
True revival is birthed in the light of God’s Word. Those who pray for revival will keep God’s Word in front of them as they are on their knees. This is citywide call to prayer. There are many definitions of revival today with different experiences and expressions. It can be confusing about whether a spiritual experience is truly revival. But one sure measurement is if revival is birthed out of God’s Word and remains consistent with its truths. A true revival will be sustained by the spiritual fruit described in Scripture. As we pray for a heaven-sent revival, let’s keep the Word of God and the Lord Jesus Christ at the forefront of all our longings! “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for revival that is saturated and sustained by the truths of Your Word. Show us how to pray according to Your promises. Give us the wisdom to discern all things according to the truth of Your Word. We long for true revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 1-9: Revival Awaits Spiritual Leaders

January 1: Power Through Surrender
The world has yet to see what God can accomplish through one person fully surrendered to Him. This is citywide call to prayer. This quote about surrender helped shape the ministry of D. L. Moody, one of America’s great evangelists. Many came to Christ under his powerful and Spirit-led preaching. But Moody always acknowledged that it was his daily surrender in intimacy with God that game him fresh anointing each time he proclaimed the gospel. This is still our prayer today—that God will do mighty and powerful things through those who surrender daily to Him. “Dear Heavenly Father, our desire is to see the world come to saving faith in Jesus Christ. But we have no power to minister on our own. Help us to surrender our lives to You each day in prayer and humility. We pray that You will fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we might boldly proclaim Your truths for the salvation of the lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 2: Revival Awaits Spiritual Leaders
Revival awaits those spiritual leaders who are willing to humble themselves and repent of their own sins—and then seek God with a determination that does not give up until God answers. This is citywide call to prayer. In the Hebrides revival of 1949, the pastors and elders of one church understood their responsibility before God. They took on the burden of revival for their community. They prayed for months, well into the night, surrendering themselves to God. On the night that God sent revival, some of the men were spiritually spent and physically exhausted. But as leaders, there was no cost too great for them as they pleaded with God for revival. “Heavenly Father, our hearts long for another revival. Please give us the faiths to plead with You night and day, as long as it takes, for You to answer once again with true revival. We need to fill us with Your Spirit, that we might persevere in prayer until You answer. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 3: A Marked Christian Leader
A leader who has counted the cost for revival will be easily identified as one who speaks the truth and walks in humility. This is citywide call to prayer. If you are a leader who perseveres in humble, repentant prayer, people will know. If you spend considerable time in intimacy with God, seeking Him fervently for revival, it will show. You will be a “marked” Christian leader. Your life will be known for integrity in Christ. People will know that your words are truth. As you plead before the Lord for revival, He will hear your cries because you approach Him with a humble and repentant heart. “Heavenly Father, You are calling Your leaders to greater levels of humility and repentant prayer. We pray that as leaders we might bear the mark of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As we seek You fervently, please cleanse us by Your Spirit, that we might have clean hands and a pure heart before You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 4: Disciples as Marked Leaders
The disciples were examples of leaders who were surrendered to God and filled with the power of the Holy Sprit. They were “marked men” for Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. Everyone knew how devoted the disciples were to the Lord Jesus Christ. They were not afraid to be “marked” as believers. Peter and John healed a crippled beggar—and the crowds took notice. So Peter began to boldly proclaim the gospel message. He called the people to repentance, which was not a popular message with the Jewish leaders. But Peter and John did not back down. As marked leaders, they boldly spoke the truths of Christ in the face of opposition. “Heavenly Father, please fill us with even greater boldness and courage to speak the truth of Your gospel. We pray that in a hostile culture toward biblical truths, You will give us the boldness of the Holy Spirit to stand in grace and love. Mark us as Your devoted servants. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 5: By What Power?
When Peter and John healed a crippled beggar, they were asked a fateful question: “By what power or what name did you do this?” This is citywide call to prayer. The healing of this man created quite a stir among the people. Peter took advantage of the moment and preached the gospel. The Jewish leaders tried to stop them. They asked Peter about the power by which he healed. Without hesitation, Peter proclaimed the power of Jesus Christ. Scripture says it was immediately evident to all around that Peter and John had been with Jesus. Can people tell the same about you? “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for a greater work of the Spirit of Christ within us—that we will be demonstrations of Your resurrection power. We pray that Your presence will be so great in us that people will immediately know that we are followers of Christ. Cleanse our hearts and fill us with the power of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 6: Fearless Preaching
A characteristic of past revivals was the fearless preaching of the need for repentance of sin. Preachers during these spiritual awakenings did not fear or hesitate to preach the truth. This is citywide call to prayer. It is said that Jonathan Edward’s message in the 1700s on “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” was overpowering to the listeners. People gripped the back of the pews because the conviction of God was so great. Years later, when revival preachers George Whitfield or John Wesley spoke, people would often fall to the ground and cry out for mercy. In a true revival, preachers will not hesitate to preach on sin, and God’s conviction will soon follow. “Heavenly Father, we pray for boldness for pastors and leaders to speak of sin and call for repentance. We pray that Your Spirit will bring deep conviction on all of us, that we might repent. May Your Spirit usher in the fires of revival again in our day. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 7: Hope for Forgiveness
One of the characteristics of past revivals has been fearless preaching of the need for repentance. Some of the greatest preachers during spiritual awakenings were those who did not hesitate to preach on sin. This is citywide call to prayer. Under Duncan Campbell’s preaching in the Hebrides Revival, people were gripped by his fearless preaching on the judgments of God. As Rev. Campbell preached on sin, he also emphasized the faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and the hope of forgiveness. Hundreds repented and experienced revival under Campbell’s preaching. Let’s keep in mind that spiritual awakenings and revivals are rooted in truth that ushers in the Spirit’s conviction of sin. “Heavenly Father, we believe You are a Covenant-keeping God. If we repent, You will forgive and heal our land. We pray for deep conviction of Your Holy Spirit and a movement of repentance in our churches. We ask for Your forgiveness that ushers in the fire of Your presence in revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 8: Standing Fearlessly
Some of the greatest movements of God have followed leaders who stood fearlessly in the face of opposition and prayed with great passion for the fire of God’s presence to fall. This is citywide call to prayer. Scripture says that Stephen was “a man full of God’s grace and power, who did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.” But opposition arose against Stephen, and it cost his life. Stephen never backed down, and God gave him the grace to persevere. When Stephen was stoned for his message of repentance, he got a glimpse of Jesus in heaven, interceding for him in the face of death. God used Stephen’s courage to further the gospel. “Heavenly Father, at times we fear speaking the truth if it comes at great cost. But we ask You to fill us with courage to stand fearlessly in the face of opposition. May we be leaders who pray with great passion for revival, regardless of the cost. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 9: Revival Awaits True Spiritual Leaders
God accomplishes amazing things through people who are fully surrendered to Him. God uses leaders who are willing to humble themselves and seek God for revival. This is citywide call to prayer. As a Christian leader, are you marked with humility and a passion to take on the burden of revival for your church or community? Revival awaits true spiritual leaders who will seek God in prayer and trust that He will powerfully answer. "Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise to send revival if Your people will truly humble themselves, repent of their sins, and have faith in a covenant-keeping God. We pray for spiritual leaders to take on the burden for revival by praying with repentant hearts and perseverance until You answer. May all who walk with You be fully surrendered to Your will. We pray for a renewed burden for prayer amongst Your people and an outpouring of the fire of Your presence on our churches and communities. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 10 – 17: Undeniable Fruits of Revival

January 10: Born in a Prayer Meeting
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign of revival will be the fruit of prayer. This is citywide call to prayer. The early Church was born out of a prayer meeting. After Pentecost, the early believers continued to meet often for prayer. Scripture tells us that new converts immediately joined other believers in teaching, fellowship, and prayer! When the power of God’s presence came to the church of Acts, people were compelled to gather in constant prayer and worship. The more they prayed, the more people came to Christ and were added to their group. A true revival will bear the fruit of people gathered in prayer. “Heavenly Father, we praise You that the first Church was born out of a prayer meeting. We acknowledge that the power of prayer is the way that You advance Your Kingdom. Please send a revival that will compel Your people to pray with greater hope and expectancy. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 11: Fruit of Prayer
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of prayer. This is citywide call to prayer. A sure sign of revival in the Hebrides in 1949 was the renewed commitment to prayer. When a person experienced true repentance, his or her conversion was measured by an increased desire for prayer. It was expected that new converts would show up at prayer meeting. If not, they were considered “doubtful conversions.” Imagine using that same standard in our churches today! The immediate fruit of revival was reflected in a person’s willingness to rearrange their lives to make prayer a priority. “Heavenly Father, we live in a day when prayer gatherings have been crowded out by busy schedules and other priorities. We pray for a return to times of revival when prayer becomes the most compelling activity of one’s day. Please transform our hearts so that seeking You is the single most important thing we do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 12: Revival Marked by Holiness
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of holiness. This is citywide call to prayer. Revival always ushers in an intense awareness of God’s presence and holiness. If the fire of God’s presence invades a person or community, things cannot remain status quo! Even the hardest of hearts and the most resistant to salvation will have a sense of God’s presence. One of the converts in the Hebrides revival put it this way: “So awesome and pervasive was the sense of God’s presence, that even the grass beneath my feet and the rocks around me seemed to cry out ‘flee to Christ for refuge.’” God’s holiness is a sure indicator of revival! “Heavenly Father, we pray for Your holiness to overwhelm us and convict us of our sin. Our hope rests in our full surrender to Your holy and awesome presence in our lives and community. Come, Lord Jesus, and convict us fully of all sin. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 13 Impact of Holiness
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of holiness. This is citywide call to prayer. When God’s holiness in revival is ushered into a community, it will have an immediate impact. Those who submit to the conviction sin through the power of the Holy Spirit will be dramatically changed. One cannot remain the same in the presence of a holy God. The prophet Isaiah experienced this when he found himself witnessing the throne room of God in Isaiah 6. He was immediately undone by his own lack of cleanliness before the Lord. Isaiah could only exclaim, “Woe to me! I am ruined!” Acknowledging God’s holiness is a fruit of revival. "Heavenly Father, we know we cannot stand in Your presence and be unchanged. We pray that You will reveal more of Your holiness so that we can walk in greater repentance and awe of You. We desperately need Your cleansing. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 14: Fear of God
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of holiness. This is citywide call to prayer. When Isaiah was ushered into the throne room of God, he saw how desperately sinful he was. Isaiah declared himself to be a “man of unclean lips.” In the Hebrides revival, believers were so overwhelmed by God’s holiness that they were afraid to even open their mouths lest they utter words that would bring on them the judgments of God. When God sends a true revival, it changes even our words. “Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that we, like Isaiah, are people of unclean lips. Our hearts desperately need cleansing and our words need purifying before You. We pray that You will send the fire of Your holiness to bring conviction and cleansing of our sin. We pray that we will examine all our words and thoughts in light of Your holiness. Forgive us, Oh God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 15: The Fruit of Joy
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of joy. This is citywide call to prayer. When the power of the Holy Spirit is unleashed throughout entire communities, the resulting repentance will release a profound joy. When Paul and Barnabas preached the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, they were welcomed and embraced. Many became believers in Christ, and the gospel spread throughout the entire region. Acts 13:52 records that the new believers were “filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Joy is always the fruit of true repentance in revival. “Heavenly Father, we pray for a true revival that leads us to repentance. We know that our repentance and turning from sin will ultimately release a profound joy in us. We pray that this will be the experience of every believer in You. And we also pray that the lost will experience the joy of repentance and salvation in Jesus Christ. In Your name, amen.”

January 16: Joy of God’s Love
When the Lord sends the fire of His presence in revival, an undeniable sign will be the fruit of joy. This is citywide call to prayer. True revival is characterized by a solemn awareness of the holiness of God. This compels people to a deep repentance of sin. But it also ushers in a profound joy when one is forgiven and overwhelmed with the depths of God’s love. In the Hebrides revival, this joy was expressed in singing. More than 80 new spiritual songs or hymns were written during this three-year revival. Most of the songs focused on the newly understood love of God. Once forgiven, praise was continuously on the lips of the people. “Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You for Your infinite love! Please reveal Your holiness to us and bring us to deep repentance before You. And then, Lord God, please fill our hearts with joy of forgiveness of sins, that we might worship and adore You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 17 – 24: Keys to Revival: Forerunners and Timing

January 17: Don’t Give Up!
Revival begins in the heart of one or more consecrated servants who will pray with faith for God to move once again. This is citywide call to prayer. He began praying alone, but Jeremiah Lamphier did not give up with his noon-time prayer gathering in New York City. He prayed with faith for a move of God. Within a week, one hundred believers were praying with him, and then thousands across the city were praying. Revival soon followed! Critical to revival are those forerunners of faith who are willing to pray and seek God, even if no one else joins them. “Heavenly Father, thank You for planting the desire for revival in the hearts of those who will pray with faith. We pray for those intercessors and forerunners today who have been praying alone or with very little encouragement. Please bless the intercessors in our city, Father. Refresh them today and give them more faith to continue to pray for revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 18: Forerunners of Revival
Revival begins in the heart of one or more consecrated servants who will pray with faith for God to move once again. This is citywide call to prayer. Forerunners to revival are those men and women who are called of God to pray during spiritually desperate and dry times. God gives these forerunners a Spirit-led faith to believe that God desires once again to send revival. They will pray without any immediate evidence of God answering their prayers. They will pray at great personal cost and will not give up until God answers. They pray believing that there is no hope apart from God—and that revival is the answer. “Heavenly Father, we thank You for these forerunners of prayer for revival. Please bless them and fill them with a fresh faith to keep praying until You answer. We pray for their encouragement today to stay faithful in prayer, regardless of cost. Please let them know that their reward will be great. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 19: A Dry and Thirsty Land
Revival begins in the heart of one or more consecrated servants who will pray with faith for God to move once again. This is citywide call to prayer. Two elderly sisters prayed alone in their home for revival to come to the Hebrides Islands. Peggy and Christine Smith were forerunners of revival, as they pleaded with God for months to move powerfully. They often prayed until 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning. As time passed, they did not get discouraged. They simply became more determined as they prayed according to God’s promise in Isaiah 44:3: “For I will pour water upon him who is thirsty; and floods upon dry land.” “Heavenly Father, we thank You for the faithful intercessors who believe Your promises. We join them in praying that You will again pour out Your refreshing waters of revival on our dry and thirsty land. Give us the faith to believe that You will fulfill all Your promises to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 20: Increased Fervency in Prayer
We cannot predict when God will send the fire of His presence in revival. But we can sense the nearness of the time based on the increased fervency in the prayers of His people. This is citywide call to prayer. When God gets ready to move powerfully in revival, He sets His people to praying. We are seeing increased fervency of prayer in the church today. Some prayers are related to growing desperation with family or financial crisis. But God is also raising up more people to pray specifically for revival. True revival in Jesus Christ as the only hope for our nation. As more people pray, we can be encouraged that revival is perhaps not far behind. “Dear Heavenly Father, we understand that the hope for our nation rests in Your desire to send the fire of Your presence to convict us of sin and restore us. Please stir within more of Your people to pray fervently for this desperately needed revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 21: Nothing…Everything!
We cannot predict when God will send the fire of His presence in revival. But we must pray with faith, believing He will do it in His perfect time. This is citywide call to prayer. Elijah was a man of great faith and prayer. As Elijah knelt down on Mt. Carmel to pray for rain, he looked for evidence in the cloudless sky. Nothing. Elijah prayed again. Nothing. Seven times Elijah persisted in prayer—and then suddenly God sent a terrific rainstorm that ended a three-year drought. True to His promises, God responded to Elijah’s persistent prayers for rain. As we pray for revival, we must not give up, even when we see no evidence on the horizon. God’s timing is always perfect! “Heavenly Father, we pray for the faith and persistence to seek You for revival without giving up. We believe that it is Your heart to send revival, and so we pray with expectation and hope for Your revival fires to fall. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 22: Wait for It
We cannot predict when God will send the fire of His presence in revival. But we must pray with faith, believing He will do it in His perfect time. This is citywide call to prayer. Our days seem increasingly desperate with global conflict, job losses, family struggles, and loss of biblical values in culture. These are days that call for a dramatic increase in the prayers of God’s people. Habakkuk 2:3 gives us the assurance that we can trust God for His perfect timing: “…Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” We can rest assured that the Lord will move His hand at the perfect time. But until then, we must pray for revival with expectant and fervent hearts. “Dear Heavenly Father, we believe that revival is close at hand. We pray with faith and expectancy that You are preparing to send revival at exactly the right time. We trust You and pray with great hope. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 23: Keep On Knocking
We cannot predict when God will send the fire of His presence in revival. But we must pray with faith, believing He will do it in His perfect time. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus was sent in God’s perfect timing to redeem sinners and restore hope to a lost world. God will again send the fire of His presence in revival to restore His Church and prepare us for the return of Christ. As we pray for revival, we can trust Jesus’ instructions to keep on asking, keep on looking, and keep on knocking. At the right moment, God will fulfill all of His Kingdom purposes in answer to our prayers. “Dear Heavenly Father, we praise You for the faith to pray for revival in our communities and nation. We trust Your perfect timing, but we also pray that our hearts will burn with a fervency to see the fire of Your presence cleanse our hearts, churches, and communities. Come, Lord Jesus. In Your name, amen.”

January 24 – 31: Revival Key: Extraordinary Prayer

January 24: True House of Prayer

Jesus said that His Father’s House was to be a house of prayer for all nations. Is this a true picture of the church today? This is citywide call to prayer. The doors of this New York City area church open every Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. You may not get a seat if you do not arrive at least an hour beforehand. What motivates thousands of people to walk, take the subway, or fight traffic to get to this church? A prayer meeting. At the Brooklyn Tabernacle, believers are devoted to boldly calling upon the Lord week after week because they know that a revived church is a praying church. "Heavenly Father, most of our churches lack this kind of commitment to prayer. As we pray with repentant hearts toward revival, we also pray that You will raise up powerful prayer meetings in all our churches. Help us to understand that there is no greater source of power than believers gathered together in prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen."

January 25: Beyond Normal Prayer Practices
As we pray for revival, we must be willing to pray extraordinary prayers and believe God for the miraculous. This is citywide call to prayer. At the Brooklyn Tabernacle in the New York City area, thousands of believers gather each week for prayer that goes beyond the normal prayer meeting. Many of them have been delivered from drug addiction, abusive relationships, and lives of crime. They know the power of prayer because God has miraculously intervened in their lives. Week after week, they humble themselves and cry out to God. They know the depths of despair and desperation, but they also know the grace and glory of God. Let’s pray for that glory as Isaiah did in Isaiah 62: “Heavenly Father, For Zion’s sake, I will not keep silent. For Jerusalem’s sake, I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. Then nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 26: Extraordinary Prayer
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. In his book The Power of Extraordinary Prayer, Bob Bakke writes that, “For the glory of his name and the splendor of his purposes, God summons intercessors who will unitedly, urgently, and relentlessly seek God.” According to Dr. Bakke, there are those “extraordinary times when ordinary prayer is not enough. Crises, periods of danger, or times of great sin compel God’s people to seek God.” It seems we are today in extraordinary times when greater prayer is needed to usher in revival. “Heavenly Father, we praise You for calling Your people to prayer. We ask You to fill us with fervency and passion to pray extraordinary prayers in our day. May You respond by sending the fire of Your presence to revive Your Church and bring the lost to salvation in Jesus Christ. In His name, amen.”

January 27: Until All Are Revived
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. During the Hebrides revival in 1949, a unified prayer movement continued for three years. The people did not quit praying until the revival had spread throughout all the communities on the Island. For two hours each day, the work in the fields and businesses stopped as people gathered to pray over the noon hour. The prayer was so extraordinary and powerful that most who accepted Christ were born again before they ever stepped into a church or heard a preacher. This extraordinary prayer is key to revival. “Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that You will raise up a unified and extraordinary prayer movement in our churches and communities. We pray that our desire for revival will drive us to fervent and sacrificial prayer—and that we will not give up until You come. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 28: Desperate Moments of Prayer
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. The believers in the early Church experienced desperate moments when extraordinary prayer fueled their cries for God to show Himself powerful. In the moment before God poured out His Spirit at Pentecost, the followers of Christ were gathered in days of united and extraordinary prayer. There was nothing more important than seeking Him. They had nowhere else to turn except to the Lord in prayer. And in response, God poured out His Spirit in extraordinary ways. We need another outpouring in our day! “Heavenly Father, we recognize that in our day that we desperately need another powerful move of Your Spirit. We cry out to You with repentant hearts. Please send the fire of Your holy presence once again to purify us and draw the lost to salvation in Jesus Christ. In His name, amen.”

January 29: Ordinary People
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. Scripture is filled with examples of ordinary people of God calling out in extraordinary prayer for God to move in profound ways. Scripture actually refers to Elijah as “a man just like us.” Imagine that! Elijah prayed extraordinary prayers for the rain to cease for three years. God honored those prayers by closing up the heavens. Elijah prayed again for rain, and God responded by ending the three-year drought. Yet Scripture refers to Elijah as an ordinary person! God invites us, as ordinary people, to seek Him for extraordinary things. “Heavenly Father, we need an extraordinary movement of Your Spirit in our day. We are desperate for the fire of Your presence to convict us and restore us. We are ordinary people, but we ask You to do a mighty work of revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 30: God’s Extraordinary Response
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. In story of Peter’s release from prison in Acts 12, Peter was taken back by God’s extraordinary response to the prayers of his friends. He had a hard time believing that an angel of the Lord led him out of prison, past prison guards, and through gates that miraculously opened. Yet a household of Peter’s very ordinary friends were praying extraordinary prayers. As we gather to pray with each other as ordinary friends, let’s ask God to do the impossible. “Dear Heavenly Father, we know that we can accomplish nothing on our own. If revival is to come to our communities, it has to be Your extraordinary response to the prayers of ordinary people. Please increase our faith and use our heart cries for revival to transform our communities. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

January 31: Extraordinary Final Days
Throughout Scripture and revival history, there are times when God calls His people to extraordinary prayer as the backdrop for His great and might works. This is citywide call to prayer. We live in extraordinary days with incredible challenges. We may be closing in on the final days of man. We do not know exactly when Jesus will return. But we know that some day soon He will come as our glorious King when His Church is prepared for His return. In the meantime, we must ask God to give us extraordinary prayers that will usher in the fire of His presence and bring the salvation of the lost. God is summoning us to pray extraordinary prayers. “Heavenly Father, we are desperate to pray the prayers that are on Your heart. Those are the prayers that will usher in a widespread revival in our nation. We call out to You in prayer, asking You to do extraordinary works in our day. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 1-5: Drastic Days; Desperate Prayers

December 1: Desperate Prayers for God’s Glory
In drastic days, we must pray desperate prayers. Some of the greatest prayers of the Bible were prayed in drastic moments—and God responded powerfully! This is citywide call to prayer. When Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal in a showdown on Mt. Carmel, he prayed a simple but profound prayer. Elijah appealed to God to demonstrate His power in the midst of those who mocked the true God. Elijah’s great prayer in 1 Kings 18 was for God to prove that He was the only true God. In that moment, fired flashed from heaven, burned up the altar, and caused the people to fall on their faces before God. May we also be passionate in our prayers for God’s glory to be known! “Heavenly Father, we live in drastic days. We pray that by Your Spirit, You will enable us to pray great prayers. May You be known as the only true God. Please increase our faith to pray great prayers for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 2: Desperate Prayers for God’s Favor
In drastic days, we must pray desperate prayers. Some of the greatest prayers of the Bible were prayed in drastic moments—and God responded powerfully! This is citywide call to prayer. Nehemiah recognized the destruction of Jerusalem as a drastic moment. Upon seeing the broken down walls, Nehemiah wept, mourned, fasted, and prayed a desperate prayer. He appealed to God’s promises, repented of sin, and asked God to once again deliver His people. God responded to Nehemiah by granting great favor. God gave Nehemiah the strength and strategy to rebuild the walls in just 52 days! It is time for us to also pray desperate prayers on behalf of our own cities. “Dear Heavenly Father, we know that our own cities are broken and devastated by sin. Please break our hearts, that we might mourn and pray just as Nehemiah did. Please teach us to pray those desperate prayers. As we pray, we invite You to bring healing and restoration to our communities. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 3: Desperate Prayers for Victory
In drastic days, we must pray desperate prayers. Some of the greatest prayers of the Bible were prayed in drastic moments—and God responded powerfully! This is citywide call to prayer. When Jehoshaphat realized that God’s people were surrounded by deadly enemies, he was alarmed. He called the people to fast, and then prayed a very desperate prayer before God. He honestly proclaimed that he did not know what to do, but that his eyes were upon the Lord. In his prayer in 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat cried out to God to save them, knowing there was no other hope. God responded by turning the enemies armies upon each other and granting amazing victory. "Dear Heavenly Father, we know the enemies of the gospel of Jesus Christ surround us. We call upon You, Oh God, to give us amazing victory in proclaiming Your truths. We recognize that apart from You, it is hopeless. So we invite You to fight on our behalf! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 4: Desperate Prayers for Courage
In drastic days, we must pray desperate prayers. Some of the greatest prayers of the Bible were prayed in drastic moments—and God responded powerfully! This is citywide call to prayer. The believers in the early Church were threatened and commanded to keep quiet about their faith in Jesus Christ. But instead of going silent, their prayer in Acts 4 was a desperate prayer for courage. They called upon God to send healing power and miraculous signs, proving that they were truly His servants. Scripture says that God responded powerfully by shaking the building and filling them with the Holy Spirit. We need that same kind of Spirit-led boldness in the drastic days that we now face. "Heavenly Father, we know the threats are growing to keep us silent about our faith in Christ. But we pray for greater boldness to speak Your truths. Please fill us with the power of Your Holy Spirit, that we might preach and pray with greater desperation for Your glory to be known. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 5: Desperate Prayers for Deliverance
In drastic days, we must pray desperate prayers. Some of the greatest prayers of the Bible were prayed in drastic moments—and God responded powerfully! This is citywide call to prayer. As Peter was held captive in prison, his friends prayed desperate prayers. And God delivered Peter in dramatic fashion! An angel of the Lord was dispatched to Peter’s prison cell. The angel woke Peter up, and his chains simply fell off. The angel then led Peter out of the locked cell. Peter was delivered to the door of his friends, surprising them while they prayed. In the midst of drastic days, God answered desperate prayers. “Heavenly Father, we are so encouraged by the dramatic story of Peter’s release from jail. We thank You for Your constant watch over us. We pray that You will protect us and deliver us from evil in these drastic days. We pray for Your glory to be known in our midst, that we might pray with even greater faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 6-12: Prayer Preparation for Revival

December 6: Wait on the Lord
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. Just before the birth of the early church, God set His people to praying. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit. They obeyed the Lord by praying and waiting for several days. Suddenly the Holy Spirit came like a roaring wind and a flaming presence. The disciples were filled with power from on high and the early church was birthed. Their prayers had prepared the way. “Heavenly Father, teach us to once again pray and wait on You for the fire of Your presence. Just as the early church was birthed in prayer, we desire a fresh move of Your Holy Spirit. Please set us to praying again, that we might once again see a fresh revival of Your Church. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 7: Wait Just Long Enough
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus told the disciples wait for the Holy Spirit to come. And so the disciples gathered to wait and pray. And wait and pray. In fact, they prayed for several days without any evidence of answered prayer. But then suddenly the Holy Spirit came rushing in and filled them with power! What if the disciples had given up a day earlier? Thankfully, the disciples waited and prayed just long enough—and the early Church was birthed from their prayers. “Heavenly Father, we pray for the courage and faith to wait just long enough for You to move powerfully in our midst. Help us to pray faithfully until You send revival. May we not give up until Your Spirit is poured out powerfully in our midst and Your people are revived. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 8: Waiting for Power
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. The disciples waited and prayed for days for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But what if the disciples had grown tired of sitting in a crowded room, praying for the unknown? Imagine if they had decided to embark on ministry a day earlier—before the Holy Spirit gave them power? Their ministry would have been weak and fruitless. Certainly they would not have set the stage for the gospel to go to the ends of the earth! “Heavenly Father, we pray for Your Holy Spirit to give us the power to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. May we not do it in our own strength. May we instead be clothed with Your power from on high. Help us to pray faithfully to be filled with Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 9: Don’t Give Up
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. In a small church in the Hebrides Islands, the weekly prayer meeting had dwindled to just a few people. It was harvest time, and so most people kept working in the fields. The elder in charge decided to shut the prayer meeting down until after harvest. But each week, the Lord prevented him from cancelling the prayer time. Then suddenly, in the midst of just a handful of praying people, God sent revival! “Heavenly Father, at times it is discouraging when so few people are praying. We even wonder if we should just give up for a season. But You are willing to pour out Your Spirit because of the prayers of just a few. Please renew our hope to never give up. Help us to pray until You send revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 10: Taking on a Prayer Burden
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. The leaders in a Presbyterian church in the Hebrides gathered to discuss the appalling spiritual condition of their church and community. They had reached a hopeless place, apart from a move of God. So they began to pray. The leaders covenanted with God to take on the prayer burden of revival. They would not stop praying until God sent the fire of His presence. Their prayer preparation led the way to revival. “Heavenly Father, we pray that You will show us the true condition of our churches and communities. We pray that Your Spirit will burden us to pray for revival until You send it. Help us to stand in the gap and not give up praying until we experience the fire of Your holy presence in our churches and nation. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 11: Awakened to Our Need
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. Unless God awakens us to our true spiritual condition, we will not experience a burden to pray for revival. Unless we understand our desperate need for the fire of God’s presence, we will not travail and prevail in prayer. However, when that awakening comes, it is a sovereign and gracious act of God. He will open our eyes to our desperate condition, and fill us with the power of His Spirit to intercede beyond our own human resolve. “Heavenly Father, please remove the veil from our eyes and show us how desperately we need revival in our churches and nation. Let our hearts break as Your heart breaks over our sinful condition. May we seek You with repentant hearts, and be moved by Your Spirit with extraordinary prayers for revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 12: Our Desperate Need
It has been said that when God is about to move powerfully, He sets His people to praying. Our prayers are the preparation for the coming revival. This is citywide call to prayer. We are in desperate need for a spiritual awakening in our nation. If we step out in faith, God will place a burden on our hearts to pray with prevailing prayer. Are you willing to take on a burden for revival, that you might cry out for perhaps the most powerful revival that our nation has ever known? “Heavenly Father, we know that prayer is the key in preparation for revival. But we also know that we are weak in our prayers, often giving up too soon. Please fill us with the ability to be bold and full of faith to take on the burden for revival for our churches and nation. We pray that You will provide us with the strength and vision to pray long enough for You to send revival! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 13-19: Why Do We Want Revival?

December 13: Why Revival?
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. I recently spent time with a wise Christian leader who has prayed for revival for years. But she posed a question that surprised me. She asked me why I wanted revival. My first thought was, “Doesn’t everyone want revival?” But now I understand more of the answer to her question. I don’t want revival—God does! And God is the One who has put it in my heart to pray for that revival. “Heavenly Father, we cannot come to You on our own, wanting revival for our nation. You want revival more than we do. We pray that You will put an increasing burden on our hearts to join You in desiring revival for our nation. Help us to pray with Your heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 14: Revival Belongs to God
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. Many leaders are challenging us to pray for revival. It is encouraging that God’s people are waking up to our desperate need. But where did the desire for revival start? It did not start with any great speaker or prayer leader. Revival is God’s idea. It belongs to Him alone. Without God, there is no work of revival. He authored it, and He is ushering it in by giving us the heart and prayers to pursue Him in revival. “Heavenly Father, we praise You that revival is on Your heart. We thank You for including us in Your divine purposes to bring a great spiritual awakening to our nation. Thank You for authoring this movement of prayer for revival. May we pray with faith and belief in You alone! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 15: The Reason for Revival
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. There is really only one true reason to pray for revival. It is not for our sakes; it is for the glory of God alone. The most compelling reason to seek God fervently for revival is that His name will be honored and His glory manifested throughout our land. If you can agree with that, then join me in praying for revival and spiritual awakening in our nation! “Heavenly Father, our greatest heart-cry is that Your name will be famous and revered throughout our land. Oh, that You might send a revival that showcases Your glorious reign in all things. We pray for a spiritual awakening that will exalt Your holy name above all names. We pray that through revival, all will acknowledge You as Savior and Lord. Come, Lord Jesus. In Your name, amen.”

December 16: God’s Presence Distinguishes Us
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. Moses prays a very powerful prayer when he pleads for God’s presence to go with the Israelites. Moses understands that without the fire of God’s presence, there is nothing to distinguish God’s people. It is the same with revival. Without the fire of God’s presence in revival, the Church will not look dramatically different from society. But with God’s presence fully manifest in our midst, we will reflect God’s glory to a lost world. “Heavenly Father, we want to be a distinguished people because Your manifest presence is magnified in us. We pray for the revival fire of Your presence to fall upon Your people so that Your Church is glorious and exalting of Your holy name. We do not want to live without Your glorious presence in our midst. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 17: Revival Restrains God’s Righteous Anger
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. There are many reasons for desiring revival. David gives an important reason in Psalm 85 when he appeals to God to revive His people and prolong His righteous anger. In revival, God’s people are called to repentance and holiness. The unsaved are convicted by the Holy Spirit toward salvation. God’s wrath is held back by the humble and repentant hearts of a revived people. “Heavenly Father, we thank You for the hope of revival that turns away Your wrath. We pray for the convicting power of Your Holy Spirit to be poured out upon Your people, that we might repent and be revived. Please bring glory to Yourself by redeeming the lost through salvation in Christ. May Your righteous anger be satisfied as we return to You in great joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 18: Revival Restores Awareness of God
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. When true revival is sent from heaven, an entire community will be saturated with the presence of a holy God. When God breaks through, nothing else matters except the glory of Christ. People will be convicted of sin, and then healed and restored in the love of Christ. A holy awareness of God will permeate everything—and God will get all the glory! “Heavenly Father, we pray for revival for the sake of Your name. We invite You to come in Your manifest presence and saturate our communities. With repentant hearts, we plead with You to overwhelm us with a renewed awareness of Your holiness. Send an invasion from heaven that convicts of sin and purifies our hearts. Restore to us a deep awareness of Your majesty and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 19: Revival Reveals God’s Graciousness
It is becoming a commonly heard cry—the cry for revival in our nation. More people are praying with greater hope for spiritual awakening. But why do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. God is a gracious and loving God, and these attributes are best displayed through a revival that saturates churches and overwhelms a nation. In revival, God’s gracious hand of mercy is revealed as He sends His convicting, healing and restoring power. When people repent and return to the Lord, they experience God’s glorious activity in their lives. Revival displays God’s finest work in His people! "Dear Heavenly Father, we so desire revival because it reveals all of Your magnificent attributes. In revival, we will know Your mercy and kindness as You convict us of sin and restore us to Yourself. We pray for the fire of Your glorious presence to be poured out in our midst, that we might experience the fullness of Your love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 20-26: Revival Is Supernatural

December 20: Wrestling with God
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. It was a bold prayer from a young man who was desperate for the fire of God’s presence to fall in the Hebrides Islands. He reminded God of His promise to pour His Spirit upon those who were thirsty for Him. He declared that God’s honor was at stake. Suddenly the house literally shook with God’s supernatural response. There was no question that God was pleased to send revival! "Dear Heavenly Father, this man took You at Your word and prayed with an unusual boldness. You delighted to honor his humble and courageous heart. When our hearts are repentant before You, You inspire us to pray with boldness for revival. We do pray for another supernatural work of revival in our day, Oh Lord. Please hear our cries. In Jesus’ name, amen."

December 21: Tangible Evidences of Revival
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. When a young man in the Hebrides rose to his feel to pray a very bold prayer for revival, God responded supernaturally. The house shook with God’s tangible presence, and the revival spread throughout the community. The local bar was emptied within 48 hours as all the patrons were convicted of sin. And within 48 hours, nearly every young person up to age 20 had surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ. When revival comes, it will clearly be a supernatural work of God. "Dear Heavenly Father, we pray for a revival that will demonstrate Your supernatural power. We pray for an outpouring of Your Holy Spirit that will convict us of sin and transform our hearts. We pray that this supernatural work of Your Spirit will saturate our communities and bring glory to You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 22: Revival is a Divine Moment
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. Nancy Leigh DeMoss, a leader in today’s prayer movement, describes revival as a divine moment when there is a supernatural outpouring of God’s Spirit on His people. True revival cannot be manufactured or manipulated by man; God sends it wherever He wills. But when revival comes, there will be no question that God has responded to the cries of His people. If it is true revival, everyone will know that a divine moment has come. “Dear Heavenly Father, we long for a supernatural and divine moment of revival. We seek You with repentant hearts, knowing that we can do nothing apart from humbling ourselves and crying out to You in desperation. We pray that You will move supernaturally upon us by Your Spirit, allowing us to have a miraculous transformation of heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 23: Revival is Far-Reaching
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. Although every revival may look different, one thing is certain. True revival will include a clear indicator that God has moved supernaturally in the hearts of people. True revival will be evidenced by an extraordinary move of God. It is said that in certain parts of the Hebrides Islands, the conviction of sin was so far-reaching that not a home, family, or individual was untouched as genuine repentance swept through the people. “Dear Heavenly Father, we desire a revival that will sweep supernaturally through our communities. We pray for a move of repentance that touches every individual, home, and church. Our heart’s desire is that no one will escape the fire of God’s presence and the deep conviction of sin. Through repentance, we pray that You will be honored and glorified. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 24: Man Gets No Credit
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. True revival is something only God can do. Revival cannot be attributed to any well-known speaker or ministry. In the Hebrides revival in the 1950s, Duncan Campbell was called to preach. Some began to credit him with the revival, which grieved him deeply. In fact, Campbell characterized revival as a move of God that doesn’t need a word to be spoken by any man. If a revival is truly of God, no one will receive the glory except God Himself. “Dear Heavenly Father, we repent of the times that we call man’s work revival and then try to take the glory and credit for ourselves. We pray for a revival that is clearly Your supernatural work in our midst. We want You alone, Oh God, to receive all the glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 25: No Need to Exaggerate Revival
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. When God moves in true revival, He will not need our help to promote it. When He moves supernaturally in true spiritual awakening, there will be no need to exaggerate His work. We will know with certainty when revival has come! Even unbeliever will know that something truly spectacular has occurred. Not everyone will choose to repent. But neither will anyone be able to deny the transformational nature of God’s outpouring of His Spirit. True revival will be unmistakable. “Dear Heavenly Father, we long for a supernatural movement of Your Holy Spirit in revival. We pray that when You move, there will be no denying Your revival power. We pray that even the lost will be amazed at Your power and glory. May all come to repentance through Your move of revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 26: Overwhelming Joy
Revival is a supernatural work of God. As we pray for revival, we are inviting God to do something extraordinary that cannot be explained in human terms. This is citywide call to prayer. When revival swept through the Hebrides Islands, it was accompanied by a profound joy. When people truly repented and embraced faith in Jesus Christ, they were cleansed and restored to new life. Their joy could not be contained. Many new worship songs were written during this time, and the people found themselves singing continuously. It was not uncommon to hear people singing joyfully in the stores and on the streets. True revival is characterized by overwhelming joy. “Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You that true repentance brings refreshing. We pray for a supernatural move of revival that will fill our hearts with joy and our communities with praise. We pray for an extraordinary work of cleansing and healing in our lives, resulting in resounding worship of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 27-31: Revival: How Much Do You Want It?

December 27: Are You Willing to Change?
Revival is a sovereign work of God that transforms entire communities. God wants to do a work of revival among us. But the question is, “How much do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. All throughout history there are exciting stories of extraordinary revivals. God moves powerfully among His people and His presence transforms even entire communities. Most believers hope for revival, but how many are actually willing to pray for it? God sends revival in response to our repentance and heart-felt prayers. Are you willing to change your life priorities and make yourself available to pray for God’s purposes? “Heavenly Father, we are such a busy and pre-occupied people. We may want revival, but we lack the courage and desire to actually pray with great sacrifice and passion. Please, Lord, fill us with the power of Your Spirit to truly desire revival. Give us the prayers for revival that are on Your heart, that we might pray them in agreement with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 28: Taking Risks
Revival is a sovereign work of God that transforms entire communities. God wants to do a work of revival among us. But the question is, “How much do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. If God is to move powerfully through us, it will require us to take uncomfortable risks. Abraham had to leave his homeland at 76 years of age. David had to leave the tending of sheep to lead a nation to war. The disciples had to leave their fishing nets behind to follow Jesus. God’s plan for His people does not include lives of comfort and ease. But He’s just waiting to pour out His Spirit if we are willing to trust Him and follow Him. “Heavenly Father, we want to pray with great courage and sacrifice for revival to come to our communities and nation. Please fill us with the boldness of Your Holy Spirit to pray with great faith and walk in obedience. We want to take those risks that will honor You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 29: God Wants to Do It Again!
Revival is a sovereign work of God that transforms entire communities. God wants to do a work of revival among us. But the question is, “How much do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. God wants to impart a vision and a passion to His people to seek revival. It is God’s heart to send revival—and He wants to prepare us to usher it in. Historically speaking, every revival was ushered in through prayer, and God wants to do it again! He is looking for people who will take Him at His Word and become the catalysts for revival. He is searching for those who will change the course of their lives in order to pray fervently for Him to pour out His Spirit in revival. Will you be someone who will take on this prayer assignment from the Lord? "Heavenly Father, thank You that revival is Your idea and it is what You want to do in our midst. Please put the vision on our hearts and use our prayers to usher in revival. Help us change our lives to honor Your Kingdom purposes. In Jesus’ name, amen."

December 30: Paul’s Prayer for Revived People
Revival is a sovereign work of God that transforms entire communities. God wants to do a work of revival among us. But the question is, “How much do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. In Colossians 1, the Apostle Paul prayed a very powerful prayer for the revival of God’s people. This was not a prayer of wishful thinking. Paul was asking God to do an amazing and reviving work in the lives of his fellow believers. Paul desperately wanted revival, and we can join Paul in a similar prayer for the Church today. “Heavenly Father, we pray that You will fill Your people with the knowledge of Your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. We pray that Your people will live lives worthy of You, Lord, and pleasing to You in all ways. We pray that as Your revived people, we will bear fruit in every good work and we will grow in the knowledge of God. Oh, Lord, please send revival to Your Church. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

December 31: Paul’s Prayer for Revived People
Revival is a sovereign work of God that transforms entire communities. God wants to do a work of revival among us. But the question is, “How much do we want revival? This is citywide call to prayer. In Colossians 1, the Apostle Paul prayed a very powerful prayer for the revival of God’s people. Paul desperately wanted the Church to reflect the glory of Christ and walk in the fullness of Christ’s power. We can join Paul in a similar prayer for the Church today. “Dear Heavenly Father, we want to pray, as Paul did, that You will strengthen Your people with all power according to Your glorious might. Please give us great patience and endurance to seek You in all things. We thank You that You allow us to share the inheritance of Your Kingdom. Thank You for rescuing us from the dominion of darkness. As redeemed and revived people, may we reflect Your glory to the entire world! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

November 1-7: The Biblical Basis for Repentance

November 1: Jesus’ First Message
After Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness fasting and praying, He delivered a public message that was very straightforward. This is citywide call to prayer. One of the first messages Jesus preached is recorded in Mark 1:15. Jesus doesn’t gingerly test His words or take a poll of what people might like to hear. He simply preaches that the kingdom of God is near, so repent and believe! To truly walk in the fullness of the Kingdom of God, we must repent and turn from our sins. This is how we demonstrate that we fully believe the gospel of salvation. Repentance is the first word of the gospel, and it is also the pathway to revival. Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for being so clear about our need to repent and turn from our sins. It is such a gift to know that You have come to forgive us and cleanse us. We praise You for this wonderful gift! In Your name, amen.

November 2: Jesus’ Continuous Message
Jesus came to bring truth and light into a dark world. He knew that His arrival on the scene was about to change everything! This is citywide call to prayer. No one fully understood the significance of Jesus’ mission on earth. But Jesus knew that history had turned a corner. Matthew 4:17 says that “from that time on, Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.’” God was accomplishing His Kingdom purposes on earth through Christ. And so Jesus preached repentance as the means to receive forgiveness and citizenship in that Kingdom. Hope had arrived in the person of Jesus, and repentance was the means to fully embrace Him! Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for interrupting history and changing everything. Thank You for the hope of salvation and the gift of redemption. Help us to embrace the wonderful gift of repentance. We pray that You will continue to reveal Yourself as the truth and the light. In Your name, amen.

November 3: Jesus’ Charge to His Disciples
Shortly after His resurrection, Jesus suddenly appeared to His disciples and startled them. They were overjoyed and in disbelief that Jesus was standing in front of them. Jesus then gave His disciples their new assignment. This is citywide call to prayer. Upon Jesus’ death and resurrection, He charged the disciples with the message of repentance to be preached in His name to all nations. This was no small assignment, but the disciples were about to be clothed with power from on high. Our assignment is also to preach the truth of repentance in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is Jesus’ charge to us today, that all might choose to repent and believe. Dear Lord Jesus, we praise You that Your message of forgiveness and salvation continues to be preached throughout the earth. We pray that the power of the Holy Spirit will come upon us once again, that we might also fulfill our assignments to reach the lost. In Your name, amen.

November 4: The Disciple’s Obedience
Jesus gave the disciples on-the-job training by sending them from town to town to preach repentance and heal the sick. He also warned them that they might not always be welcome. This is citywide call to prayer. Jesus instructed the disciples to take very little with them—no bread, no extra cash, no change of clothes. But Jesus also warned that some might not receive their message. Mark 6:12 says that “they went out and preached that the people should repent.” Scripture says that many who listened were delivered from demons and healed from sickness. Receiving the message of repentance has the same results today, as true brokenness before the Lord brings freedom and healing. Dear Lord Jesus, just as the disciples were sent to proclaim the truth of Your forgiveness of sins, we pray to be filled with the same courage. May we go out into our communities and workplaces and preach the truth, that many may be saved! In Your name, amen.

November 5: God’s Kindness
What is perhaps the most kind and loving thing that God could do for you? The answer might surprise you! This is citywide call to prayer. Some might believe that God’s kindness is best demonstrated in His ability to bestow great wealth or good health. But according to Romans 2, God’s immeasurable kindness is extended when He leads our hearts toward repentance. Think about it. All the wealth and blessing bestowed on earth cannot match the gift of repentance that leads us to salvation! Through repentance, God pours out His favor upon us. Through repentance, God sends the fire of His presence in revival to convict entire communities and lead many to faith in Christ. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your great patience and kindness. We pray for the kind of consuming fire of revival that leads many people to conviction of sin and restoration with You. We pray for an encounter with Your holiness that leads many to repentance and salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 6: God Waits for You
God can wait a very long time for you to come to repentance. His heart is for you to know the joy and release of turning from sin and turning to Him. This is citywide call to prayer. Scripture says that God is patient with us because He wants no one to perish. He longs for all to come to repentance. But 2 Peter also says that the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then it is too late. So why wait? Instead, do as the Scriptures instruct us. Live a life that is spotless, blameless, and at peace with God. Repent now—and don’t make God wait much longer for you! Dear Heavenly Father, You are so patient with us and so longing for us to turn from our sin. We confess our desperate need for You and we repent of putting You off. Please forgive us and cleanse us, that we might live blameless lives as we eagerly await Your return. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 7: Times of Refreshing
We all need times of refreshing. We need our hearts to be revived and our hope restored. The Bible gives a simple way to experience this refreshing. This is citywide call to prayer. Peter had just offered healing to a man through the power of Jesus Christ. When Peter took his hand and pulled him to his feet, his legs and ankles were instantly restored. The people were amazed, and then Peter offered healing to them, as well. In Act 1:16, Peter says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” We need the healing and refreshing of our hearts more than anything. Dear Lord Jesus, just as You have to power to heal our physical struggles, You can also heal our hearts. We turn to You in repentance, that You might bring refreshing to our hearts. Please forgive us and cleanse us, that we might experience a true refreshing revival of our souls. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 8-14: The Coming Revival; Signs of Spiritual Awakening

November 8: The Next Spiritual Awakening
It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. No one knows for sure how close the next great revival is, but here are signs that the Church in America is closing in on a desperately needed move of God. Christians have been repenting and crying out to the Lord in increasing numbers. This is just one indicator that God may be preparing to send another great spiritual awakening to our nation. When God stirs His people to pray, He is preparing to move His hand. Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for stirring a greater desire in our hearts for another divine visitation from You upon our nation. We confess that we are hopeless without You. We are in desperate need in our families, churches and nation for a powerful awakening of Your manifest presence in our midst. Please let it be soon! In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 9: A Growing Cry
It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. When God moves His people to pray for revival, it is because God desires to respond to those prayers! A hopeful sign toward a coming revival is that hundreds of pastors, Christian leaders, and ministry organizations are joining forces to speak of our need for revival. These leaders are calling the Church of Jesus Christ to pray with greater fervency for the presence of God. Could it be that we are approaching another great spiritual awakening in our nation? Dear Heavenly Father, we acknowledge our desperate need for You in our nation. Thank You for calling Your people to pray. We join with voices across this nation in pleading for Your mercy and grace upon our nation. Please for give us our sins and graciously send a desperately needed revival to our nation! In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 10: Increased Prayers of the Remnant
It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. If we study the historical patterns for revival, there are key indicators that God may be preparing to move His hand once again in our nation. One indicator is the increasing hunger in the hearts of intercessors and pastors. Although this is usually a small group of people in comparison to the larger Church, this remnant remains hopeful and fervent in prayers for revival. This gives us hope that perhaps another great spiritual awakening is not far away. Dear Lord, we are so grateful that You are willing to stir hope within us to pray with greater fervency for a fresh revival of Your presence. Thank you for the many intercessors and pastors who are praying faithfully for revival. May You awaken even more of us to pray! In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 11: United, Extraordinary Prayer
It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. Leaders who study past revivals agree that there are two recurring keys to revival. One key is a movement of united, extraordinary prayer. This is prayer that is passionate, fervent, and repentant in nature. It is prayer that comes from a burdened heart that cries out to God in extraordinary fashion. We desperately need a restoration of this kind of united prayer in our churches. When our churches begin praying in extraordinary ways for God to move once again in revival, we can expect a favorable response from God! Dear Lord, we pray for a movement of untied, extraordinary prayer. Please move by the power of Your Spirit in calling us to greater prayer. We recognize how desperately we need You, and we pray for another great awakening in our nation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 12: We Need Each Other!

It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. A leader in the spiritual awakening movement in our nation believes that united prayer must be restored to the Church in extraordinary ways. Billy Wilson of the Awakening America Alliance believes we are going to need each other more than ever before. “The Church is asleep,” Billy says, “and we are not ready for the trials that are coming.” Granted, we do not know what the next months will hold for us as a nation, but we can pray and seek God together. Dear Heavenly Father, we trust You for the future of our nation. We pray that You will awaken us to united in prayer for whatever trials might come our way. We desire that in the midst of any coming darkness, Your glory will shine through us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 13: Proclaiming the Gospel
\It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. Spiritual awakenings and revivals are rooted in the spread of the gospel. God raises up messengers of truth who will speak with courage and boldness about the need for deep and radical repentance that leads to true transformation. Revival ultimately results in the salvation of lost souls when the gospel is preached with the anointing of the Holy Spirit. When God awakens His Church in revival, many will come to Christ through the fearless proclaiming of the gospel message. Dear Lord Jesus, You gave Your life for the forgiveness of our sins and the salvation of our souls. We ask You to revive Your Church to once again proclaim the gospel without fear. We pray for a fresh anointing of Your Spirit share the truth of Your Word with boldness. In Your name, amen.

November 14: Boldness in the Pulpit
It has been perhaps 150 years since we have experienced a powerful spiritual awakening throughout our nation. Are there signs that we approaching another great awakening? This is citywide call to prayer. When God moves powerfully in revival and spiritual awakening, pastors and messengers of truth find their voices to cut through culture speak of sin. God uses them to bring conviction, but this takes courage and boldness coming from the pulpits in the churches of America. In today’s society, it is not easy to speak into the culture with biblical principles that may offend. Let’s join in prayer, asking God for that courage and revelation of truth. Dear Heavenly Father, we want to honor You and Your Word by always speaking truth, regardless of consequences. We pray for a renewed boldness and courage to speak of sin and point toward repentance and forgiveness. We pray for Spirit-led voices to cut through culture and speak hope into a lost world. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 15-21: When Revival Fires Fall

November 15: Calling Down Fire
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. But what would that look like? This is citywide call to prayer. We know from Scripture that the fire of God’s presence is all-consuming. Isaiah prayed that God would rend the heavens and that the fire of His presence would once again inflame God’s people. According to Isaiah 64, he prayed that God’s presence would be like fire that sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil. So when we pray for revival fires to fall, we are asking God to come with a refining blaze that consumes everything. Heavenly Father, we join with Isaiah’s prayer and ask that once again You might again rend the heavens and come down. We know this is beyond our understanding, but we trust You to consume us with a refining fire that will bring You all glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 16: Encountering God’s Fire
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. Praying for revival is no simple request. We know from Scripture that the fire of God’s presence is consuming and overwhelming to man. When Moses encountered God’s on Mt Sinai, His glory was described as a “devouring fire.” When Elijah prayed for God’s presence, fire flashed down from heaven and consumed everything. Daniel, John, and Ezekiel were all like dead men in God’s presence. This is not a casual request of God. But His consuming fires of revival are what we truly need. Heavenly Father, with great awe and respect for Your power, we ask You to once again send Your revival fires. We pray that Your fire will cleanse our hearts and restore Your Church to righteousness. We desperately need to encounter the fire of Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 17: Expectancy of God’s Fire
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. When we call upon God to come in His manifest presence, we cannot pray with a casual expectation of His response. God’s revival fires are all consuming! If God were to send revival today, you can expect several things. You can expect an exposure of pride and independence from God. You can expect God to reveal hidden sin and burn it out of our lives. You can expect the fire of God’s presence to be cleansing, healing, and restoring. It is what we truly need! Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that we can seek You with great expectation. Should You choose to send revival fires, we know that it will cleanse us and bring back into right fellowship with You. We ask You to graciously bestow those revival fires upon us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 18: When God’s Fire Burns
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. When we pray for revival, what are we really asking of God? This request cannot be made with casual indifference. If we invite God’s manifest presence, His burning fire will consume us and reveal His true nature. If God sends revival, we will be filled with an overwhelming sense of His holiness. In the presence of an Almighty God, His Spirit will humble us, convict us of sin, and lead us to repentance. But this is the most glorious thing we can invite into our lives! Dear Heavenly Father, we know that we desperately need Your Holy and cleansing fire to burn in our midst. Please send Your revival fires to convict us of sin and lead us into true repentance. May we be humbled in the presence of Your holiness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 19: The Glorious Result of Revival

There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. Imagine what it was like for the Apostle John to experience the fire of God’s presence. Revelation 1 says that John’s encounter with Jesus left him on the ground as though dead. John describes Jesus’ eyes as blazing like fire. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. Imagine how the presence of Christ must have encouraged John. John knew in an instant that Jesus was who He claimed to be. In true revival, people will be renewed in their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. What a glorious result of revival! Dear Lord Jesus, we long for the fire of Your presence to fall upon us. Fill us with renewed faith and trust in You. Remind us of Your glorious nature one again. In Your name, amen.

November 20: God’s Glorious Light
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. A pastor and the elders of the church were face-down on the floor, crying out to God. Into the early morning hours they prayed and groaned under the weight of their offenses before God. And then suddenly the room was filled with a glorious light. It was the fire of God’s presence falling upon them. These men were changed for ever, and revival fires were soon to spread throughout the Hebrides Islands. Let’s pray for revival fires to also sweep our nation today. Dear Heavenly Father, we know that You delight in sending revival fire to those who humble themselves and truly repent, fervently seeking You. Would You please move again in our day? We so desperately in need the fire of Your presence to cleanse us and transform us. In Jesus name, amen.

November 21: God’s Unmistakable Presence
There is a growing cry for the revival fires of God to fall upon our nation. Many people are praying with repentant hearts for a great spiritual awakening. This is citywide call to prayer. When God sent His revival fires throughout the Hebrides Islands, it was felt in different ways. For some, it was the unmistakable presence of God filling a room, like a glorious light. For others, it was the sense of shaking, with cups and plates literally rattling with God’s presence. For many, their repentance led to overwhelming joy, often expressed in glorious singing. However it was experienced, there was no mistake when the fire of God’s presence had come! Dear Lord, we desire Your revival fires to consume us once again. We pray for Your unmistakable presence to fill our hearts, churches, and our nations. We desperately need a holy visitation from You once again. Please come in Your manifest presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 22-28: Paying the Price for Revival

November 22: Tracing Back History
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. There is an encouraging pattern of God’s grace in the history of revivals. God began with just a handful of people willing to pay the price. In fact, it was often less than 12 people who were willing to cry out to God with sacrificial prayers revival. This should encourage us to pray faithfully, regardless of the numbers. In God’s economy, He looks for the righteous who will seek Him, even if it’s just a few! Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your grace in responding to even just a few who seek after You. Please fill us with the courage to pray faithfully and not give up until You respond. Please draw us into desperate prayers for the fire of Your presence to fall upon us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 23: Forerunners of Revival
\When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. In most major spiritual awakenings, you will find praying people who were the “forerunners” of revival. These people were burdened by God to pray faithfully. Often few in numbers, they believed with faith for God to break through with revival fires. In the Hebrides in 1949, two elderly sisters were the forerunners of that revival. Mostly confined to their home, they often prayed late into the night. They were willing to pay the price—and God responded powerfully! Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the forerunners who are already praying for revival. We pray that Your Spirit will draw more of us into fervent prayer for spiritual awakening. May we all experience the joy of being forerunners to the outpouring of Your glory! In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 24: Travailing Prayer
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. Paying the price for revival means that you will persistently seek God in prevailing and travailing prayer. If you truly desire God’s revival fires to fall, you may need to forego your comfort. Paying the price means sacrificing your time and leisure. In the Hebrides revival, a pastor and elders prayed into the early morning hours for months, often several nights a week. They travailed in prayer, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, knowing that paying the price was key to an outpouring from the Lord. Dear Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that we may not really know how to travail in prayer. Please stir a deep desire in our hearts for the fire of Your presence. Show us how to seek You in travailing prayer, regardless of the cost. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 25: Cost of Brokenness
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. Revival comes at the cost of personal brokenness. It is not enough to simply ask God to send revival. We must be willing to confess our sinful ways. In the Hebrides revival in 1949, a pastor and elders were willing to walk through their own personal brokenness. As they cried out to God night after night, they repented of their own sins. Paying the price means being willingness to examine your own heart for the sake of revival being poured out on others. Dear Lord Jesus, it is not easy to admit our own sinfulness or be willing to embrace brokenness. But we know that brokenness is the cost of revival. Please fill us with the desire to pray the price for Your revival fires to fall upon us. In Your name, amen.

November 26: Refusing to Give Up
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. The price of revival is often persistence in prayer. Those who are burdened for revival will pray continuously, refusing to give up—even when the heavens may seem silent. Jesus encourages this kind of prayer in Luke 18. He commends the widow who persistently goes before the judge, asking for justice. Jesus assures the disciples that their Heavenly Father will delight in responding to their refusal to give up. In fact, Jesus hopes that He will find believers engaged in this kind of costly praying when He returns. Dear Lord Jesus, we want to be those who are willing to pay the price in prayer. Fill us with a burden for revival. May we refuse to give up praying until You answer with revival fires! In Your name, amen.

November 27: For the Sake of the Lost
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. Do you have friends who are lost? What about family members who have not yet accepted Jesus Christ? If God were to send revival fires that brought deep conviction on unbelievers, would you be willing to pay the price for the sake of the lost? That is the point of revival. As believers and unbelievers alike are convicted of sin, the resulting repentance brings people into the Kingdom of God. Are you willing to pay the price with travailing prayer? Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope of revival and the conviction of sin that it brings. Burden our hearts to pray costly prayers for the sake of the lost. Please send revival fires, that our loved ones may be brought face-to-face with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 28: Consider Your Role
When revival fires fall, God’s presence will saturate entire communities. This outpouring of revival is often traced back to the cries of a few people who were willing to pay the price. This is citywide call to prayer. Consider this soul-searching question posed by the found of a national revival ministry: If revival in this land depended on your prayers, your faith, and your obedience, would we ever experience revival?” Think about it. What if you were the one person that God called to stand in the gap on behalf of the land, according to Ezekiel 22:30? Would God hold back His judgment because of your faithful prayers and repentant heart? Are you willing to pay that price? Dear Heavenly Father, at times it seems that our prayers cannot possibly make a difference. Please forgive us for our unwillingness to pray the price for revival. Fill us with courage and boldness to rise to the challenge of standing the gap on behalf of our land. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 29-30: Quotes on revival

November 29: Weep for a Moment
True revival ushers in the fire of God’s presence, so that His glory may be known and His name revered. But there is a cost to this glorious revival. This is citywide call to prayer. We can be so eager for a move of God that we bypass His condition for revival. True revival flows out of humility, brokenness, and repentance. Evangelist Sammy Tippit reminds us that brokenness precedes the joy of revival. “When God sends revival,” he explains, “there will be a lot less laughter and a lot more weeping.” The cross of Jesus Christ came before His resurrection. Death comes before life. As we pray for revival, we must first weep over our sinful condition. Then comes the joy! Dear Lord Jesus, we praise You for the forgiveness of sin. Please show us how to weep and grieve over our sinful condition, but then embrace the joy of forgiveness. Please send a true revival that keeps our eyes on Your glory alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

November 30: Seek the Lord First
The Church does not need another novel idea to advance the Kingdom of God. We need simply to seek the face of God and experience the fire of His presence. This is citywide call to prayer. The temptation today is to try to manipulate spiritual success. But what we really need is to seek the power and presence of the Lord. As Nancy Leigh De Moss writes, “Our mission is not to seek revival, but to seek the Lord. When we set ourselves to seek His face, we will likely experience the by-product of revival.” Jesus Himself instructed us to seek first the Kingdom of God. Are you willing to seek the face of God with all your heart and strength? Dear Lord, we commit to setting our hearts on You. We seek You above all things. We are in desperate need of You power and presence to saturate our lives. Please come, Lord Jesus, with the fire of Your presence! In Your name, amen.

Transcript for October 2009 Radio Spots:

October 1: A Resolve for the Lord
Daniel was a young man of great faith and character. Even when taken as a captive to Babylon, Daniel did not give up his desire to honor God. This is citywide call to prayer. Daniel was torn from his home and taken to a strange and hostile land. But he was determined to honor God in difficult circumstances. Even when the king tried to serve Daniel the best food and wine, he did not compromise. Instead, Scripture says that Daniel was resolved to stay pure and not let anything of the pagan kingdom defile him. We need that same courage to keep pure hearts in a culture that defiles God. Dear Lord, we face so many temptations today in a culture that dishonors You. We pray for the courage to stand firm against the many defiling choices come before us. Help us to resolve to honor You by staying pure in our lives. May we bring glory to You in all things. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

October 2: True Wisdom from God
People who have a lot of knowledge may not necessarily possess wisdom. Daniel was a young man who was well educated in science, language, and culture. But he had something far more than his classmates. This is citywide call to prayer. Daniel knew that true wisdom comes from God alone. Although he was well taught in other subjects during his captivity by the Babylonians, he still sought God for greater understanding. He acknowledged that only God could reveal the deep and hidden things. It is God who knows what lies in darkness—and the light dwells in God alone. God was pleased to reward Daniel’s humility by bestowing on him wisdom from above. Heavenly Father, we acknowledge You as the source of true wisdom. We repent of being prideful about our own knowledge. We look to You as the One who knows all things and reveals truth to man. We pray that You will fill us with Your wisdom to guide us in difficult days ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 3: Reject All Occult Knowledge
Wisdom from God far surpasses knowledge from any other source. Daniel proved to the king of Babylon that astrologers, magicians, and sorcerers were no match for true wisdom from God. This is citywide call to prayer. When the king of Babylon needed help understanding a dream, he first summoned those who practiced the occult. When they could not give any answers, he summoned Daniel. As Daniel prayed and sought God, he was given wisdom that no one else had. As believers, we should put aside those things that seek knowledge from any source other than our true God. Heavenly Father, we know that even today the occult is popular in secular and even Christian circles. We repent of reading or participating in anything that seeks knowledge apart from You. Forgive us for enjoying popular culture that elevates occult practices. Please cleanse us from all defilement and fill us with true wisdom that comes from You through Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 4: Heed God’s Warnings
Daniel was called upon to seek God for an answer for the king of Babylon. When Daniel realized the king was about to experience personal destruction, he pleaded with the king to repent. This is citywide call to prayer. God revealed to Daniel the meaning of the king’s dream. For seven years, the king was going to live as a wild animal, driven from human society. Daniel pleaded with the king to turn from his prideful and wicked ways. But the king ignored him. In fact, the moment the king declared himself to be all-powerful, he lost his sanity. The king did not listen to the warnings of God to humble himself. Dear Heavenly Father, You call us to turn from our pride. You warn us to humble ourselves before You. We don’t know how close we might be to personal destruction or judgment,, but You always offer the way of repentance back to You. Please forgive us and be merciful to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 5: God Does As He Pleases
Because of his pride, King Nebuchadnezzar spent seven years living without his sanity. But when God restored him, the king was a deeply humbled man. This is citywide call to prayer. Daniel warned the king to repent before personal destruction came to him, but the king did not listen. He experienced judgment. However, when his sanity returned, the king praised God. He acknowledged that God had the power to do as He pleases. He recognized that no one could stop or challenge God. When his sanity returned, the king confessed that the Lord was true and just—and able to humble those who are proud. Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive us for living in prideful ways. We know that You could humble us at any moment. We repent for thinking we can live our lives as we please without acknowledging You. Please have mercy on us and restore us to living in right relationship with You. We give You all the praise, honor, and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 6: No Fault to be Found
Daniel lived his life with such integrity that his coworkers could find nothing to criticize. As much as they searched for fault in him, Daniel proved himself to be faithful, honest, and always responsible. This is citywide call to prayer. Because of Daniel’s great ability and faithful service, the king placed him over the entire kingdom. This made the other administrators jealous, but they could find no flaws in his character or work ethic. So their only means of revenge was to attack his belief in God. But Daniel stayed faithful in his prayers and his devotion to God, even in the face of persecution. Dear Lord, the temptation is great to compromise our convictions and live as the world lives. Sometimes it is just easier to blend in with the crowd, but we know that does not please You. Help us with live with radical devotion and deep conviction. We pray that our lives will honor You because we live in truth and integrity. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 7: Choose Obedience Regardless of Threats
Daniel had a choice to make. Cease his prayers and live—or stay faithful to his God and perhaps die. Daniel was resolute in his decision. This is citywide call to prayer. When Daniel’s enemies devised a plan to destroy him, they attacked him at the core of his faith in God. Either Daniel followed the king’s decree and stopped praying, or he faced being torn apart by lions. David responded by kneeling down in full view through his window to pray. He gave thanks to God, and then asked for His help. David was resolute in believing that nothing could deter him from honoring God. Dear Heavenly Father, we have not been tested in such obedience. We take You for granted, and we often back down in the face of opposition. We pray, Oh God, for resolute obedience that keeps us on our knees before You in all situations. We pray for a deepening of our faith and trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 8: Face Accusers with Confidence
Daniel faced certain death through the viciousness of starved lions. It was a fate sealed by his devotion to God. But Daniel trusted that His God could deliver him—and so he faced his accusers with confidence. This is citywide call to prayer. Daniel’s accusers thought they had cleverly devised Daniel’s death. Daniel’s refusal to cease his prayers condemned him to die in the lion’s den. The king was grieved for his friend, and he desperately hoped that Daniel’s God would somehow save him from the lions. And God certainly delivered! The Bible says that not a single scratch was found on Daniel because he trusted in his God! Dear Heavenly Father, we rejoice in Your power to deliver us from evil and harm. We pray that, like Daniel, we will trust You regardless of how hopeless our situation may seem. May our faith in You demonstrate to a watching world that You are the true Almighty and glorious God! I n Jesus’ name, amen.

October 9: Repentance Brings Deliverance
Daniel was taken into captivity by the Babylonians. But it wasn’t until Daniel studied the prophet Jeremiah that he discovered the captivity of God’s people would last for 70 years. This is citywide call to prayer. When David learned how long Jerusalem would be desolate, he was overwhelmed. He turned to God in mourning, praying for God’s mercy. Daniel repented for his sins and for the sins of his people. He recounted God’s faithful love, but he also acknowledged the people’s rebellion. He pleaded with the Lord to turn away His furious anger and smile upon His people once again. The Lord honored Daniel by promising that Jerusalem would be rebuilt. Dear Lord, we recognize that once again Your people are living in captivity to sin. We ask Your forgiveness for our waywardness. We pray that You will again revive Your people and restore Your Church to a place of wholeness. We pray that our cities will be rebuilt and our lives transformed by Your grace. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 10: God’s Immediate Answer
Daniel made no excuses for his people. When he realized that their sinfulness had led them into captivity, Daniel immediately repented and sought God for mercy. This is citywide call to prayer. Daniel humbled himself and confessed the sins of his people. He fasted and mourned. He called out to God for healing and restoration. And God responded in dramatic fashion—He sent the angel Gabriel to Daniel! At the very moment Daniel began praying, God answered. Immediately, at God’s command, the angel was dispatched. Gabriel also gave Daniel this message: that God loved him very much. Imagine that kind of response to your prayers of repentance! Dear Father, thank You that You hear the prayers of the desperate and broken-hearted. We praise You that You respond to those who pray in humility. We pray with repentant hearts, asking You to forgive our sins against You and again show favor to Your people. Please restore us and revive us with Your gracious love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 11: Unleashing a Cosmic Battle
Daniel was a man of humility and persistent prayer. His willingness to fast and repent created quite a stir in the heavenly realms! This is citywide call to prayer. We read in Daniel 10 that the prayers of this righteous man unleashed a cosmic battle between good and evil. Daniel had been fasting and mourning for three weeks when he had a divine encounter. This glorious being informed Daniel that his prayers had been heard in heaven. But there was a 21-day delay because demonic forces were fiercely battling against God’s angelic army. Daniel had no idea that his prayers had created a stage for such a heavenly war. Dear Heavenly Father, we simply do not know the impact of our humility and repentance in prayer. But we believe that when we call out to You with righteous hearts, You respond with power and might. With repentant hearts, we ask You to move Your mighty hand against the demonic powers that afflict us. We pray for healing and deliverance. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 12: Frightening Things to Come
Daniel had a glimpse of the future that left him terrified and breathless. The Lord revealed great tragedy and terror—and some of those events are yet to come. This is citywide call to prayer. God showed some frightening prophetic events to Daniel that left him pale and sapped of strength. Yet the Lord told Daniel not to be afraid. He reminded Daniel of God’s love. He told him to be at peace, to take heart, and be strong. We do not know what future events may unfold in our lifetime. But when we go through trials, God promises that we will be purified, cleansed and refined. Whatever Daniel saw, we can trust God with the outcome! Dear Lord, we don’t know if we are living in final days. But You call us to be strong and to trust in You through any trials. Please fill us with courage and boldness to walk through difficulties with deep faith in You. We pray for Your glorious reign in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 13: Shine Like Brightness of Heaven
Daniel set his heart toward God and humbly sought His wisdom. In response, the Lord entrusted Daniel with a vision of the future. Even today, we can share in that vision toward God’s glorious reign. This is citywide call to prayer. The Lord showed Daniel that in the end days, people would rush about and knowledge would increase. We certainly see evidence of that today! But God also promises that those who are wise will shine like the brightness of heaven. Those who turn to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. Regardless of lateness of the hour, we must saturate ourselves with God’s wisdom and live as a glorious light of hope to those who are lost. Heavenly Father, we pray for Your wisdom to permeate Your people. We pray that we will shine like the stars in heaven and proclaim hope in the Lord Jesus Christ. We pray for the revival of Your Church and a great spiritual harvest before the end of days. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 14: Challenging Spiritual Questions
John Wesley was a powerful preacher used of God during the revivals in our nation in the 1700s. He was known for his leadership of the “Holy Club,” which challenged young people to righteous living. This is citywide call to prayer. John Wesley asked challenging spiritual questions that helpful even today. For instance, he asked these thought-provoking questions: “Am I enjoying prayer?” “With what degree of attention and fervor did I use my morning prayers, public or private?” Daily review of these questions kept John and his friends faithful to the Lord. So what about you? When did you last pray with great fervor—and enjoy it? Heavenly Father, we pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit about our prayer lives. We ask You to stir a passion within us to pray faithfully and fervently. We pray that we will grow to love prayer and treasure the times that we spend with You. Keep a passionate fire burning within us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 15: Asking Hard Questions of Ourselves
Powerful revivals swept our nation in the 1700s, and at the forefront was a preacher named John Wesley. John was known for his call to holy living as a manifestation of true revival. This is citywide call to prayer. John Wesley asked hard questions that kept Christians accountable to God. We can ask ourselves these same questions. For instance, “Am I honest in all my acts and words, or do I exaggerate?” “Do I disobey God in anything?” “Do I pray about the money I spend?” “When did I last speak to someone about my faith?” An honest examination of our lives may cause some discomfort. But God would have us live with diligence in honoring Him. Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for calling us to higher standards of holy living. Although we often fail, we desire to live in obedience. We pray for greater diligence in the use of our money and the sharing of our faith. Keep us holy and faithful, oh God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 16: Probing Your Character and Integrity
A call to holy living was one of the characteristics of the revivals that swept our nation in the 1700s. John Wesley was a powerful preacher who invited young people to join him in The Holy Club—a group devoted to righteous living. This citywide call to prayer. People who joined the Holy Club were challenged with several spiritually penetrating questions. For example, “Can I be trusted?” Am I defeated in any part of my life?” or “Have I unnecessarily grieved anyone by word or deed?” These are good questions to ask! How would you answer questions that probe into your character and integrity before the Lord? Let’s pray for higher standards of holy living. Heavenly Father, our greatest desire is to honor You in how we live. We pray for the conviction of the Holy Spirit in our lives, that we might living according to Your standard of holy living. We pray that our lives will be a reflection of Your truth and glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 17: Never Give Up!
John Wesley was desperate to see revival come to England and the United States in the 1700s. He prayed and preached, but was often disappointed. This is citywide call to prayer. John Wesley was passionate about seeking the Lord, and did not give up when it seemed God was not moving. But one day, in a moment during a prayer time with about 60 people, God’s Spirit swept over them. They experienced waves of unspeakable joy as they were filled with awe and adoration. God assured John and his friends that he was indeed about to something great and wonderful. God did not disappoint them, as revival fires soon began to spread. Dear Lord, sometimes it seems like You are silent when we pray. We are so desperate for another move of revival, but at times we wonder if You will respond. Please fill us with faith and determination to not give up praying until You do send revival fires! Come, Lord Jesus, come! In Your name, amen.

October 18: Beyond the Walls of the Church
For years John Wesley prayed and preached, often feeling disappointed in people’s response. Yet God used John’s faith and perseverance to send a powerful revival. This is citywide call to prayer. John Wesley preached with great fervor in churches during the 1700s. Yet people weren’t hearing his message. Then it occurred to him that Jesus preached out-of-doors. So he stepped outside the church, and suddenly thousands were gathering to listen. The Holy Spirit began to powerfully convict people of their sins. Wesley would stop his preaching and pray for individuals—and person after person came to Christ. When the Holy Spirit begins to move, the walls of the church will not confine the revival! Dear Heavenly Father, we so desire to see a revival that spreads throughout society. Our hearts long for masses of people to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Please send the fire of Your Holy Spirit to convict us of sin and lead multitudes to salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 19: Preaching Empowered by the Spirit
Simple preaching empowered by the Holy Spirit can bring great conviction of sin. John Wesley experienced this power as God used him during the revivals of the 1700s. This is citywide call to prayer. John Wesley made sure his preaching was simple. He wanted everyone to understand the truths of God’s Word. He wasn’t a great orator in the pulpit, but it is said that his words “struck like a hammer and burned like a fire.” As he spoke, the Holy Spirit convicted people of hidden sins, so much so that people thought Wesley was speaking to directly to them. When the Spirit is at work, simple words will do just fine! Dear Heavenly Father, forgive us for trying to make the gospel sound slick. Show us how to speak the simple truth. May the fire of Your Holy Spirit accompany our words and bring deep conviction of sin. Please bring a mighty harvest of souls into Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 20: Captured by Simplicity
When the Holy Spirit is at work, people are captured by the simplicity of the message. This is citywide call to prayer. So often we try to make the gospel message sound more appealing. Yet when the Spirit is present, even the most simple gospel presentation will bear great fruit. John Wesley was an evangelist during the revivals of the 1700s. When he preached, his voice was calm, but full of certainty. It is said that his calmness seemed to draw a strong presence of God’s holiness and sovereign power. People were gripped with the reality of eternity under the conviction of sin. Thousands came to Christ through his simple preaching because the Spirit was present. Dear Lord, we that Your Holy Spirit will accompany our words as we share the gospel message. We pray that we will not compromise the truth to sound more eloquent. We ask You to bring deep conviction and clarity to Your message of repentance and forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 21: A Dying Whisper
As a leader of the revivals in the 1700s, John Wesley was determined to honor God, even with his last breath. This is citywide call to prayer. John preached to thousands, desperate for all to know Jesus as Savior. His constant prayer was, “Lord, let me not live to be useless!” As his life drew closer to the end, he preached everywhere he went. On one of his last days on earth, he wrote a letter to William Wilberforce, urging him to continue standing against slavery. With his final surge of strength as he lay dying, he raised his arms in victory and whispered, “The best of all is, God is with us.” John Wesley was useful to the Lord to the very end. Heavenly Father, we pray for the courage and faithfulness to live every moment as useful servants in Your Kingdom. We pray that we will witness faithfully, pray passionately, and honor You with our hearts. May we praise You to the very end! In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 22: Closing In on Revival
No one knows how close the next great revival is in our nation, but there are signs that the church in America is closing in on a desperately needed move of God. This is citywide call to prayer. The spiritual condition in America today is very similar to the desperate conditions prior to past great awakenings. Our nation has often experienced increased crime, financial devastation, and other societal problems. While conditions today seem increasingly hopeless, we have been here before as a nation. And God has responded in the past to the heart cries of His people for spiritual awakening. Let us pray with hope that God will once again hear our prayers and send revival. Dear Heavenly Father, we know that You are faithful to hear the humble and repentant prayers of Your people. We recognize that we are again in a state of despair in our nation. We cry out to You again to send revival. Please be merciful to us, Oh God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 23: America Desperately Needs a Move of God!
Spiritual leaders today agree that it will take a widespread revival to return America to Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. For the past two years, national prayer leaders have met in geographical locations where past great spiritual awakenings have been birthed. One of those locations was Northampton, Mass., where Jonathan Edwards preached and the First Great Awakening was birthed in the 1700s. As these spiritual leaders met again and prayed, they sought God for another Christ-awakening in both the church and society. If history is any indicator, this growing heart-cry for revival is pointing toward another Great Awakening. Leaders agree—America desperately needs another move of God! Heavenly Father, we recognize our desperate need for another Christ-awakening in our nation and Church. Please forgive us for our grievous sins. We ask You to revive us once again in the fullness of Jesus Christ. We pray for a great awakening that will turn put Jesus Christ back at the center of all things. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 24: Increased Extraordinary Prayer for Revival
One of the indicators that revival may be coming soon is the increase of united, extraordinary prayer among God’s people. This is citywide call to prayer. A study of the history of spiritual awakenings reveals one clear indicator that God may be preparing to send revival. If God stirs up His people to pray with greater fervency and desperation, revival may soon follow. This kind of extraordinary prayer is characterized by prayer that is passionate, fervent, and repentant in nature. It is also a united prayer that cuts across denominational and cultural barriers. In recent years, there has been an increase in this kind of united and fervent prayer among God’s people. Let’s continue to pray with hope. Dear Heavenly Father, we unite our voices in desperate prayer for another move of revival in our nation. Please stir in Your people an even greater heart cry of extraordinary and repentant prayer. May we not let up until You answer with a powerful move of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 25: United Prayer Precedes Revival
United and extraordinary prayer is always a precursor to a move of God in revival. We may be closing in on another spiritual awakening in our nation. This is citywide call to prayer. In recent years we have witnessed a steady increase in united prayer movements in our nation. More of God’s people are growing spiritually hungry for the power and presence of God. They are joining in prayer movements that are uniting churches and denominations. This unity is a forerunner to a true movement of God that awakens the Church and brings multitudes of people to salvation in Jesus Christ. In the coming days, we will need each other more than ever! Heavenly Father, we pray for a might move of Your Holy Spirit that brings unity and reconciliation in Your Church. We desperately need You, and we also need each other. We pray for even greater increase in the united prayer movements across our nation. Bring us together in prayer and love, Lord Jesus. In Your name, amen.

October 26: Messengers of Truth in Revival
Spiritual awakenings and revivals are rooted in the reclaiming of a message of boldness and truth, especially in the American pulpit. This is citywide call to prayer. When God is preparing to move powerfully in revival, He uses pastors and messengers of the gospel to speak truth. As leaders speak boldly about sin and the need to repent, God’s Spirit moves and brings conviction. It takes courageous gospel messengers to cut through the culture and speak with clarity and biblical truth. But when God’s people tell the truth about sin and live with integrity in their own lives, God moves. Let’s pray for our pastors to be filled with courage in Christ. Heavenly Father, we pray for our pastors and spiritual leaders, that they might be bold messengers of truth. We ask You to fill them with courage to speak of radical repentance that leads to true transformation of life. May they live with integrity before a watching world. Please bless and protect our pastors. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 27: Don’t Give Up Praying for Revival!
If you desire to see revival and spiritual awakening come to our nation, please don’t give up in your prayers! This is citywide call to prayer. Perhaps you have prayed for revival in for a long time—maybe years. You may be a faithful intercessor who has cried out to God often for a spiritual awakening in our nation. You have shed tears and travailed in prayer without seeing an answer yet. Please take heart and don’t give up! There are many indicators that revival may be closer than you think. One of those indicators is that you are not alone. There are intercessors throughout this city and nation who are joining you. Stay faithful. We need you! Heavenly Father, please encourage those who have prayed faithfully for years for revival. Renew their faith today and refresh them with the wind of Your Holy Spirit. May You bless them richly for their faithfulness, and perhaps even give them just a glimpse of a coming revival. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 28: Glory in the Darkest of Days
God’s power shines most glorious in the darkest of moments. As the days grow darker, our hope for revival should get stronger and stronger. This is citywide call to prayer. Many believers have prayed faithfully for years for revival. But perhaps you have felt discouraged as crisis around the world continues to grow. Remember, into the darkest of days, God’s glory can break through. We may be on the verge of the greatest spiritual awakening our nation has ever known. Now is the time to press in with greater faith and hope for the glory of the Lord to fill the earth. Don’t give up; don’t back down. Pray as though revival is just around the corner—because it just might be! Dear Heavenly Father, please remind us today of Your great power. Fill us with new hope and faith to believe Your promise to respond to the prayers of the humble and repentant people. We pray for a mighty move of revival to come soon. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 29: Jesus Is the Radiance of All Glory
Although the days may seem dark, we can put our hope and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the radiance of God’s glory. This is citywide call to prayer. Our nation is in crisis on many levels. The world seems more volatile with each news report. Fear, discouragement and despair are on the increase. Yet into the darkness shines the light of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the radiance of God’s glory and all things are sustained by His powerful word. That means the radiance of Christ permeates everything and fills all space and time. So rather than despair over the darkness, let’s pray for the radiance of Christ to shine through us. Heavenly Father, we pray that the power and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ will permeate our lives and shine brightly into these dark days. We declare the glory of Christ over all things. We do not fear because the Lord our God reigns throughout the earth! In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 30: The Church’s Finest Hour
This could be the Church’s finest hour! As the days grow darker, God calls His people to shine brightly with the love and hope of Jesus Christ. This is citywide call to prayer. We are told in 2 Corinthians 4 that we are to not lose heart. Yes, we may have momentarily troubles, but our hope of eternal glory far outweighs any trials or difficulties. Scripture tells us to fix our eyes on the unseen and the eternal. If you are discouraged today, look up! Turn into the face of Jesus. Let Him fill your heart with hope and give you courage to face the unknown. This truly is our finest hour! Dear Lord Jesus, please fill us with the light of Your glory. We pray that we will radiate hope and love to everyone around us. Give us opportunities to share the truth of the gospel with those who are fearful and lost. Empower us by Your Spirit to live courageously. In Jesus’ name, amen.

October 31: Looking More Like Jesus Every Day
Scripture says that we are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed. We may be perplexed, but not in despair. We may even be struck down, but we are not destroyed. This is citywide call to prayer. Perhaps you have felt what Paul describes in 2 Corinthians 4. Perhaps there are days when you are not sure if you will survive, or if there is any hope for your future. But these are the moments when we need to dig deep into the truth of God’s Word. The truth is that we are being transformed into the likeness of Christ Jesus with ever-increasing glory. Even if it seems hard, take heart! You are looking more like Jesus every day! Dear Lord Jesus, we are so grateful for Your grace and power to live in the midst of difficult days. We pray that You will transform us more and more into Your likeness. May we live with even greater hope in our eternal future. In Jesus’ name, amen.
